Beautiful

Such a wonderful listen, immediately restarted upon finishing it the first time. I could not get enough. It's definitely meant to be an audible book read by Maria. She did such an amazing job.

The best gift I ever gave myself

After scouring the internet for every Maria Bamford clip, set, special, series, and full-length presentation to mental healthcare professionals that I could find as a real fan - she went ahead and wrote me an entire book. 7 hours of Maria that I saved to listen to on my 30-minute solo walk once a week and now that I’ve reached the end, I have to decide how long I wait before I start again at the top. I don’t want to spoil it for myself by listening again all the way through too soon.

I was high on this exceptional comedy memoir just 30 minutes in, and actually I tried to leave a review. Audible wouldn’t let me. I knew at that point that I had a priceless jem in my ears, but they thought I needed to be further into this book before I could be sure I would recommend this beautifully transparent, insightful, and hi-larious listen to every woman I know. 10 out of 10, best Audible I’ve ever bought. And I’m a 100% Ear-read individual. Thank you, Maria, for your book and your performance of said book. Everyone who’s anyone loves you!

Wonderful book

I’m a fan of Maria but would have loved this just the same if I’d never heard of her. I am always impressed with her talent for voice acting and impressions, and the way the story is organized is perfectly suited for one with a short attention span and mental illness (ie me.) great job, Bamford!

Everything I had hoped for!

Maria is a true gem. If you love her stand up, you’ll love this book. It’s real, it’s vulnerable, and most of all it’s FUNNY.

Best and Brightest

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I bought the hard cover too. Honest, laugh out loud funny. I realize she is the most gifted standup of her generation, on a level with what Lily Tomlinson was doing back in the 1970s and 80s, but she’s also the funniest writer I’ve read since the late Nora Ephron. I hope they keep paying her $150,000 to write more. Next time they should pay her $500,000.

This would also make a great movie too, or short form series on HBO—from little girl in Duluth with the sister and mom, to standup on her way to LA in a manic episode in the beat up compact car, Would be a total delight. Maria Bamford is a total delight.

And while I am at it, why doesn’t Judd Apatow produce a show where Maria stars as her mother alongside Margaret Cho as her mother? They are the two best characters ever on stage and I want to see that.

Is an original. She’s hilarious. She’s one of a kind. In this book she shares her journey of ups and downs and many times she shares insight into being an adult! I think I’m going to share this with my daughter,

I love this book so much! Maria Branford’s writing feeds my soul. I hope she writes another book one day, unless she doesn’t want to. Then I hope she doesn’t.

The latest source of joy from the world’s greatest comic

Everything about this is good. Maria’s skills as both a stand up comedian and voice over actor combine with her frank and honest tales of navigating mental health resulting in something that is moving and well performed.

I’m sure I speak for others when I say that Maria’s openness about her ‘mentals’ helped set me on a path to getting help for my own ‘mentals’ and because of her putting herself out there, I saw that I needed the help that kept me alive. She’s my hero.

Listen to her book. It’s GOOD. And if you or anyone you care about struggles with anything, big or small, up in the old noggin… listen.

We aren’t alone.

If you’re a Maria Bamford fan (which you ought to be), then you know how good this audiobook is going to be before you even press play. Yes, it’s as fabulous as you think it’s going to be. It’s pure Maria: honest, insightful, and of course, *extremely* funny. Having the author read it is luscious frosting on top of the already-delicious cake.
