Publisher's summary

“I devoured this book in one day, and I guarantee you will too.”—Julie Clark, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Flight and The Lies I Tell

“An expertly woven story of love, revenge, and murder. In a world where so many books feel so similarthis was a refreshingly unique read and an addictive blend of love and mystery that I couldn’t put down. This is storytelling at its finest and I can’t recommend this book enough.”—AR Torre, New York Times bestselling author of Every Last Secret

Bestselling romance author Sarina Bowen’s debut thriller, about one woman’s search for the truth after receiving a text from her deceased ex.

She thought it was love. Then he vanished.

On an ordinary Monday morning, Ariel Cafferty's phone buzzes with a disturbing text message. Something’s happened. I need to see you. Meet me under the candelabra tree ASAP. The words would be jarring from anyone, but the sender is the only man she ever loved. And it's been several years since she learned he died.

Seeing Drew’s name pop up is heart-stopping. Ariel’s gut says it can’t be real. But she goes to the tree anyway. She has to.

Nobody shows. But the text upends everything she thought she knew about the day he left her. The more questions she asks, the more sinister the answers get. Only two things are clear: everything she was told five years ago is wrong, and someone is still lying to her.

The truth has to be out there somewhere. To safeguard herself—and her son—she’ll have to find it before it finds her. And with it, the answer to what became of Drew.

For fans of Laura Dave and Julie Clark, but with a heart-stopping romance that only Sarina Bowen can execute, The Five Year Lie is a spine-tingling thriller that will have you guessing until the very end.

Whodunit

Lots of twist and turns as the story goes. A whodunit, suspense, psychological thriller that had my undivided attention

Outstanding

This is the romantic suspense I’ve been looking for - light on the romance, heavy on the mystery/suspense. A new genre for Ms. Bowen and she doesn’t disappoint. Can’t wait for more from her in this genre!

Good story!

I just liked it all! Character building was so believable. I can believe perhaps the author is either a mother herself or close to someone who is. The little boy in this book was so adorable and wise as children sometimes are… I was hoping for a good ending but you’ll have to hear it yourself…!

A must for domestic thriller fans!

The Five Year Lie has just taken one of the top spots on my 2024 favorite books list. I only put it down when I was forced to (for sleep and work). It’s a reading hangover kind of story, with all the emotions mixed together for the perfect reading storm. It is so intricately written, with layers on layers, and is incredibly gripping with so many clues and possibilities of where the story may go.

If you are a domestic thriller reader, you NEED to read this! Now. Don’t wait. But be warned, you will feel all the things.

I also listened to the audiobook version of this book, which was absolutely fantastic. I listened at 1.9x speed (my normal audiobook speed ranges from 1.75-2x).

Best story I've listened to in years!

What a wonderful thriller and romance all wrapped up together. The narration was fantastic. I'm usually very harsh on female narrators but Kathleen Early did a fantastic job of drawing me in and making me feel part of the story. I rooted for all them while I tried to figure out the mystery. 5 star plus more!

Engaging, great narration, suspenseful

This audiobook was so much better than I expected it would be. The pace was perfect and the characters well detailed. The narrator for the female lead captured the emotions of her character so well that she had me actually crying at one point.
I don't think I have ever had that happen with an audiobook before.

Great start

This book was amazing. What a great start to a new genre for Sarina. Sarina's writing and storytelling skills are top notch. This audiobook kept me up until 3am. I was about to stop the story and go to sleep, until the bus trip. There is no way I could have stopped the book at that point. The narration was great and the storyline was very captivating. I laughed and cried. The only thing missing was sex. Sarina knows damn well that this book needed a sex scene. Fading to black is not her style. I really hope that her future thrillers won't be so vanilla. I'm used to spice from her. Other than that, the book was fantastic. I am very tight with my credits. I do not used them loosely, but this book is definitely worth a credit. You will not be sorry.
