Heather is a Winner!

Great new series, I love how characters from Jack Logan drop in too. Brilliant stay to the roller coaster ride, JD!

Another winner from my favorite Scottish writer!

I had a few concerns around this new series. 1. I did not like Heather from our previous meeting in a DCI Jack Logan book. 2. I ADORE the narration of Angus King and he doesn't narrate this book; and 3. I find there are only a few female narrators whose voices I like(of those I've listened to anyway).

All of my concerns fell away pretty quickly once I started listening to this latest effort by the very talented J D Kirk.

The story is wonderful and clips along at a very good pace. I got to meet some excellent new characters(Ace) and heard from a few old acquaintances( The Gozer and Shuggy Cowan). I was also pleasantly surprised to find I truly enjoyed the narration of Cathleen McCarron.

If you love a good story, strong character development, imaginative use of swear words and humor that runs a bit to the darker side, you will love all the J D Kirk novels.

Another amazing story from JD, Kirk!

JD Kirk blows me away every time! Heathers a story is awesome, well thought out well written, and just spellbinding. I never wanted to put it down! I was not loving the narrator. I will say that the story was so fantastic that she began to fall into the background, my irritation with her. Honestly, I am spoiled by Angus king, but I feel that there could be a better narrator for Heather and her stories going into the future! Bravo 0JD Kirk! When is the next one coming out?

Wow. Could not stop listening.
Love the layering and development of Heather’s personality and experiences. It was a brilliant tale forged with so many different well hewn characters.
Fantastic narration.

Should stick to Logan series

I’ve listened to many of Kirk’s book. I prefer the Logan series. To have a series you need likeable characters. This has none. The beginning is boring and monotonous. Then it becomes better. By the end it’s pretty good. I thought the narration was poor. Needs a different narrator for sure. A better beginning and at least a character or two that are like able.

I thought I’d hate it. How wrong was I

I was so disappointed when I got to the end of the DCI Jack Logan series. Audible kept telling me The one that Got Away was next. I was so sure I’d hate it (Heather was the most unlovable character except for a belated unthawing, which I didn’t really take seriously) that i was sure I’d never succumb. Well, I finally missed JD Kirk enough to try a few minutes of it. I was sure I’d end up disappointed and would return the book. Imagine my surprise and chagrin as I now find myself writing a glowing review of this story and if Heathers character. I eat my hat.

Just ok.

Good and interesting story line, but way too many F Bombs. I'm not sensitive at all to F Bombs in general, but it took away from the intelligence of the inspector. Excellent narrator!

Quite a refreshing surprise!

This book had me laughing out loud! I don’t ever recall laughing so much. A whole different side of Nikki. Keep ‘‘em coming.

How does he do it?

JD Kirk took one of the most hated characters from the DCI Logan series and turned her into my new favorite DI. Cathleen McCarron delivers a superb performance. Looking forward to the next installment!

Love the JD Kirk Universe

Heather is a complicated character that makes her a realistic heroine of this story. It keeps you guessing, had the humor you’d expect, and included characters you can love. I am hoping for more of Heather and Ace.
