Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

Grandpa and Noah are sitting on a bench in a square that keeps getting smaller every day. The square is strange but also familiar, full of the odds and ends that have made up their lives: Grandpa's work desk, the stuffed dragon that Grandpa once gave to Noah, the sweet-smelling hyacinths that Grandma loved to grow in her garden.

Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

"Writing is structure,” William Goldman said, but too often aspiring writers plunge into their work without grasping this fundamental principle. Story structure is one of the most important concepts for a writer to understand - and ironically, one of the least frequently taught. In this book, New York Times best-selling author William Bernhardt explains the elements that make stories work, using examples spanning from Gilgamesh to The Hunger Games.

Resumen del Editor
Please note: This is a summary and analysis of A Man Called Ove, not the original book.
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman | Conversation Starters
There is a man who has lost all hope in life. He has been brought up to do the right thing, but has never been able to show much emotion. After the death of his beloved wife, Ove has no reason to live. That is until an Iranian woman named Parwaneh shows up next door with her clumsy husband and two adorable daughters.
Gradually, Ove realizes that as much as he misses his wife, he could contribute something to society and, in turn, gain from other people.
A heartwarming and simple story of a man who finds a purpose in life, A Man Called Ove is humorous and heartrending in equal parts.
A brief look inside:
Every good book contains a world far deeper than the surface. The characters and their world come alive, and the characters and its world still live on.
Conversation Starters is peppered with questions designed to bring us beneath the surface and invite us into the world that lives on.
These questions can be used to:
- Create hours of conversation
- Foster a deeper understanding of the book
- Promote an atmosphere of discussion for groups
- Assist in the study of the book, either individually or corporately
- Explore unseen realms of the book as never seen before

A Man Called Ove is a marvelous, heart-warming story about life and love. It tackles hard questions while keeping things light with contemporary humor. Over the course of the story, a listener of any age will grow to like and relate to Ove. Furthermore, the non-linear timeline keeps the plot interesting and suspenseful.

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

I am very disappointed that I thought I was getting a book. Why would you offer other book samples for free but charge a credit for this one. I thought that I was buying a book.

Wanted to Return it after 7 mins!
I couldn't stand the reader's high pitched, emotionless voice let alone the absence of plot. The repeated question about suicide did not help either.

Did not like
Just talked about question and answer, no story. Would not recommend. Feel like I did not know this was just question and answer story.
