Story
From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships. "Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world.

Tom Segura is known for his twisted takes and irreverent comedic voice. But after a few years of crazy tours and churning out podcasts weekly, all while parenting two young children, he desperately needs a second to himself. It’s not that he hates his friends and family — he’s not a monster — he’s just beat, which is why his son’s (ruthless) first full sentence, “I’d like to play alone, please,” has since become his mantra.

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Publisher's summary
From the razor-sharp mind of comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a collection of hilarious and insightful essays about the exasperating issues of everyday life.
All Things Aside is a punchy, honest, incisive book that shares a view of the world through the eyes of the inimitable Iliza Shlesinger. From the macro to micro, Shlesinger tackles it all with her no-bullshit comedic style.
Throughout the book, Shlesinger dives from one subject into the next, making her hilarious asides the basis of her stories, much like she does in her stand-up comedy. Topics range from dissecting social expectations to the notion that products marketed specifically to women are scams, and all manner of things in between. She even dares to ask herself the all-important question that every woman is forced to consider at some point—Am I actually an annoying person? Shlesinger also shares intimate moments, including a devastating miscarriage, which she manages to navigate not only with grace but somehow with side-splitting humor.
As Margaret Cho explains in the book’s foreword, “Every woman has something to gain from the Everywoman Iliza presents in her hilarious and astute worldview … I’ve learned [from Iliza] that you don’t have to quit when you are in pain, that you can write your way out of the suffering. That there is beautiful truth to be unearthed from the depths of despair. That the stupid can be smart and that we put ourselves through hell for nothing.”
All Things Aside offers unexpected insights, much-needed truths, and tons and tons of laughs.

Much has happened to Gabrielle Reece since her 1997 best seller Big Girl in the Middle. She’s still gorgeous, still 6’3”, and a dominant force on and off the beach, but in the last 15 years, she’s settled down with world-class surfer Laird Hamilton and raised three stunning blonde girls. Her life might seem like a fairy tale from afar, but four years after her picture-perfect Hawaiian marriage to Laird, Gabrielle filed for divorce. In the end, the couple worked it out, but My Foot Is Too Big for the Glass Slipper tells the unvarnished and often hilarious tale of the turbulent ups and downs that beset every wife and mother - even the women like Gabrielle who seem to have it all.

When you think of serial killers throughout history, the names that come to mind are ones like Jack the Ripper, John Wayne Gacy, and Ted Bundy. But what about Tillie Klimek, Moulay Hassan, Kate Bender? The narrative we’re comfortable with is the one where women are the victims of violent crime, not the perpetrators. In fact, serial killers are thought to be so universally, overwhelmingly male that in 1998, FBI profiler Roy Hazelwood infamously declared in a homicide conference, “There are no female serial killers.”

There is absolutely no logical reason why I am here. The life trajectory my nationality and class and circumstances portended for me was not even remotely close to the one I now navigate. I love her comedy, her intelligence, and her fearlessness.
The delivery of the audio book seemed a bit rushed and intense. On stage her sharp and outrageously funny bits require her to pause in between them for the audience response. Without that, it got a bit overwhelming, like so much was coming at me non-stop. Still I loved her girl logic, her silly asides, and her brilliant observations and rules for being human.

The comedic tone matching her sets.
I got exactly what I wanted from this book, laughing out loud while cleaning my house.

Funny, Heartfelt, Beautifully Written
Thank you, Iliza for putting All Things Aside into the world, at the same time you were pregnant with your first baby. You are an inspiration and hilarious. A read and listen you will love to dive into!

Amazing! I loved it!
I loved this book and I am not surprised. I am an Iliza Shlesinger fan and this book is everything I’d hoped it would be. Funny, inspiring, uplifting and validating- I have NEEDED this book for awhile without quite realizing it. I am the same age as Iliza, and this book was a feel good, nostalgic adventure that left me smiling. She’s a hilarious and intelligent woman. I literally feel better after listening to this. My only complaint: that the book had to end. I hope she writes #3 soon! In the meantime I will have to look forward to listening to her podcast, Ask Iliza Anything- here on Audible. And rewatching her 6 comedy specials- especially the latest one on netflix, Hot Forever.
