Publisher's summary

Why do we experience recurring struggles in our relationships? And why do traumatic events - such as a physical injury, emotional threat, loss of a loved one, or other life crisis - so often awaken or amplify our sense of fear, anger, isolation, or helplessness?

From our earliest years, teaches Diane Poole Heller, we develop an attachment style that follows us through life, replaying in our intimate relationships, with our children, and at work. And traumatic events can deeply affect that core relational blueprint.

With Healing Your Attachment Wounds, a pioneer in attachment theory and trauma resolution brings together these two fields to help us understand and benefit from their complementary principles and methods.

This in-depth audio learning program sheds light on the three styles of insecure attachment - Avoidant, Ambivalent, and Disorganized - and the ideal fourth style of Secure attachment, where we enjoy a foundation of safety, adaptability, and intimacy with others.

The good news is that we can change, regardless of our early or current life experiences.

"As we heal and move toward Secure attachment," teaches Heller, "we become aware of triggers and patterns in our relationships. Our nervous system learns to be more regulated. Things don't throw us off so easily. And we open our capacity to love and experience greater compassion."

Through key principles, examples, and practical exercises, this program invites you to begin your own healing journey toward healthy vulnerability, wholeness, and connection with others.

Awesome Narration

Book is a really lively summary of attachment theory, plus new insights that I didn’t gain from the popular Attached book. Her narration is very authentic, as if she’s talking to you in person or teaching a lecture, not just dryly reading text. Highly recommend!

Very Helpful!

I loved this audiobook from start to finish. The narrator (author) is ideal for this informative book by the expert in how attachment figures in childhood affect adult relationships. I had no idea there were so many common relating patterns based on anxious, avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized attachment styles. Diane then went into how spouses/partners can create and maintain secure attachments despite the body-based adaptive attachment styles from childhood. I want to get the paper version now to do the activities shared in the book.

Thin

Psychology is somewhat good at identifying what's wrong and what caused it. They are terrible at identifying how to fix it. Attachment Theory is no different.

So much amazing information!

This book has really given me so much information. It was also very easy to listen to. She narrated it herself and it was like listening to a Berne Brown podcast instead of a 6 hour audio book! Truly AMAZING!

Enlightening

My therapist suggested this book to me and I’m so happy she did. I learned so much about myself and why I lean towards certain patterns of behavior. That awareness is important, but this book also gives actionable steps you can take to strengthen healthy attachment.

Good information and compassionate approach

Some of the the imagery exercises were particularly helpful. But I would say more than anything, the most helpful thing about the book is it's exploration of what secure attachment is. And I especially also appreciated the final 3 chapters that focused on how to know if working toward security with a partner is worth it.

Pleasant to listen to, helpful to take in.

I suspect I'm having what they call a disorganized attachment style, and as much as this is hard to change, I'm still glad I listen to this audiobook.
Although serving as a measure of reality check for me, it didn't discourage me at all.
it actually explained to me many things, and also why I do what I do to regulate in my everyday life.
I will gladly listen to this book again to let its insights sink in.
