Publisher's summary

Revenge, justice, or closure? Family crimes can’t be hidden forever in this provocative novel of suspense by #1 New York Times bestselling author Gregg Olsen.

Violet knows that time is a futile healer. When she thinks of her happily married grandfather—a predator lovingly referred to as Papa—the feelings of rage and betrayal still swell. Her younger sister, Lily, just discovered the numbing truth about him. Their mother, Rose? She can’t believe it. Not Papa. Leave it alone, Violet. Focus on the now.

When Papa suffers a sudden, and suspicious, fatal heart attack at Violet’s wedding, she can barely conceal her joy. Maybe the fellow survivor at her support group is right: moving on is possible only when monsters are removed from society permanently. Violet is focusing on the now. Even if doing so calls for extremes.

For herself, and for the sake of other victims like her, Violet is reclaiming the power stolen from her as a child. Predator by predator, she’s coming for them. It’s intoxicating. It’s liberating. But the secrets she now keeps, and the lies she must tell, come with a price.

Critic reviews

“In I Know Where You Live, master of suspense Gregg Olsen peels back layer after layer to reveal an ugly underbelly of family secrets and revenge. This unbearably tense, serpentine tale probes the darkest corners of the heart and mind. Excellent book, difficult topic

The author did a really good job showing exactly how this horrific behavior perpetrated on children is often not discussed or they are not believed. I think they do believe it but do not want to admit it. What chaos it would start for the whole family if this is expose! The results of someone not listening is just as devastating to a child, who has been told this is their “special secret. They finally get the courage to tell an adult, and they get told that they are lying to be quiet about it. The Perpetrator and the person who ignored the child should both be charged with child abuse and neglect. Does an excellent job in the progression of this and the results. The twisted turns and options that occur towards the end of the book is quite surprising. It shows Greg Olsen style perfectly. It’s a book he shouldn’t miss!
The narration was very well done also.

I got bored

I thought maybe the suspense or action would eventually pick up, but it never did. It got to the point that the actual murder was a “who cares”. I quit in the middle. Just didn’t care anymore.

Heavy

This was a good story about a difficult subject, the sexual abuse of a child. However, I grew tired of the internal dialog of each character, which went on and on and on, without the story moving forward. The plot itself was thin, but the subject matter was huge. I felt like I was sitting in group therapy listening to everyone describing what they went through. I respect and understand all that was said here, but I guess I was expecting something else. It certainly is a great book for those who have been exposed one way or another to sexual abuse of children by trusted family members. Who hasn't? The book details many of the lifelong troubles victims experience. One thing I did like about the book though, is how some of the offenders were "taken care of". A troubling but compassionate story.

Mixed Reviee

This is for both the ebook and the Audible

Hard book to review. Harder book to read but I did finish it. I personally didn't like any of the characters with the exception of Violet's husband. The whole subject matter was icky but I persevered to read about the comeuppance the perverts got. Not as "enjoyable" as I anticipated. But the book was exactly as promised. Should have followed my first instinct. Gave it four stars because it was well written and the Audible was good. Just a hard subject matter.

An honest, terrible, heartbreaking story

As others have observed, this is a very difficult listen. This is also a book about reality. Turning away from the "awful" facts, well... that's precisely the problem. You protect a predator at the expense of your own and your children's safety and sanity. That's the clear message.

Kind of got stuck at the wedding

SPOILER ALERT: The mother of the adult daughters (one of which is the bride in the present) truly betrayed her daughters às children àllowing her father to molest one daughter. *Trigger Alert* The mother did not believe her small child and protected her father betraying her small child. In the present, the adult daughter who was molested demands her mother tell and prevent grandfather from attending her wedding. My question for the adult bride and her sisters is if Mom didn't protect you as a child, why would she NOW do it by preventing her child-abusing-father from attending the abused daughter's wedding? The sad reality is the adult daughters and groom and other supportive adults needed to create a barrier to block this amoral man. Seems the whole family has been letting dirty- grandpa move through the children unhindered.

A terrible reality

The subject of this story is a reality that no one likes to think about. Abuse of any kind is just plain wrong, and sexual abuse is the worst, facing it and doing something about it well that’s what the storyline of this book deals with.
The narrative of this book was well done.

Enough to make your blood boil

Loved overall. Character building was short but did give you all you needed. Narrator was great. Story is something that unfortunately so many deal with on a regular basis. Complex situations that people choose to sweep under rugs every day for the sake of “don’t put bad on the family name.” That to me should be screamed from roof tops. If you have triggers of SA - listen cautiously but I do recommend you give it a try. There is a light at the end of the tunnel in this story.

Circles Inside Of Cycles

The narration was completely on point in a story of circles of sin, revenge, retribution, murder and innocence destroyed inside cycles that wash-rinse-repeat. Truthfully the so-called justice system just increases what happens rather than stopping the cycles. Not saying I have the answers, but clearly the results show that what is being done doesn't work. Hard story to tell but well done by the author.
