Sono Ernestina, Ines, Emilia e tante altre giovani che, con i loro sogni e le loro fragilità, accompagnano la vita della fabbrica e le dedicano il proprio destino.
La Zaini è una famiglia e, come una famiglia, quando Luigi muore prematuramente nel 1938, si stringe intorno a Olga, che mostra un coraggio e una forza di cui lei stessa è sorpresa. Gli anni sono drammatici, ma tra i razionamenti e l'autarchia, le leggi razziali e le bombe su Milano, che colpiranno duramente anche la Zaini, questa piccola grande azienda riuscirà a sopravvivere, a conservare gli insegnamenti del suo fondatore e a far sentire ancora per le strade l'intenso profumo del suo cioccolato.
