On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Against all odds, the controversial Wraith Squadron has survived its first covert mission. But now they are called upon to cheat death twice. This time, Wedge Antilles sends them in to stop the warlord Zsinj and his Super Star Destroyer, Iron Fist. If Zsinj joins the Empire, it could turn the tide of war against the Rebels. The Wraith Squadron’s mission: infiltrate the warlord’s fleet and uncover his carefully guarded plans. To do so, they must pose as ruthless pirates seeking to join Zsinj’s forces. And that means first becoming pirates in space lanes teeming with Imperial navy patrols.

Story
Obi-Wan Kenobi has not been apprenticed long to Qui-Gon Jinn, and he is chafing at Qui-Gon's training style: all meditation, no action. Obi-Wan yearns to prove himself on a mission, but when he and Qui-Gon are finally set to leave on an assignment, Qui-Gon is nowhere to be found. Angered by his master's abandonment, Obi-Wan sets out on the mission alone, determined to prove himself. On a mysterious planet he encounters a pack of feral, Force-wielding teens who seem to be the planet's only inhabitants.

Publisher's summary
In the year before The Phantom Menace, Yoda, Mace Windu, and the entire Jedi Council confront a galaxy on the brink of change.
The Jedi have always traveled the stars, defending peace and justice across the galaxy. But the galaxy is changing, and the Jedi Order along with it. More and more, the Order finds itself focused on the future of the Republic, secluded on Coruscant, where the twelve members of the Jedi Council weigh crises on a galactic scale.
As yet another Jedi Outpost left over from the Republic’s golden age is set to be decommissioned on the planet Kwenn, Qui-Gon Jinn challenges the Council about the Order’s increasing isolation. Mace Windu suggests a bold response: All twelve Jedi Masters will embark on a goodwill mission to help the planet and to remind the people of the galaxy that the Jedi remain as stalwart and present as they have been across the ages.
But the arrival of the Jedi leadership is not seen by all as a cause for celebration. In the increasing absence of the Jedi, warring pirate factions have infested the sector. To maintain their dominance, the pirates unite, intent on assassinating the Council members. And they are willing to destroy countless innocent lives to secure their power.
Cut off from Coruscant, the Jedi Masters must reckon with an unwelcome truth: While no one thinks more about the future than the Jedi Council, nobody needs their help more than those living in the present.

Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

Star Wars: The Living Force
Exciting story during the time-frame a few years before Star Wars I - The Phantom Menace.
Yoda, Yaddle, Mace Windu, Sifo-Dyas, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and many more all star in this adventure where the Jedi will have to team up with the Republic army when Outposts are being decomissioned but also pirates are teaming-up and attacking Jedi and the people of a planet.
The main villain was abandoned by the Jedi (by Master Sifo-Dyas) and wants to take revenge on the Jedi by killing as many of them as possible.

Another Canon Miss
Whew they really put Mark through the hoops on this one. So many different voices and he does a decent job of keeping each distinct…if annoying.
Story is standard Disney SW mess.
Reads like a cartoon not a novel.
Any Immersion is due to Mark and the SDX team working overtime, not the author.
Granted giving each of the 12 council members + necessary side characters is a tall order to fill.
A few nice moments for sure, but if you’re on a budget-skip. This is not the SW book you were hoping for.
Dissatisfied ending

Great performance
Always love to hear Marc Thompson narrate. This book was intriguing and a fresh story that included character’s perspectives that we don’t usually get to see. We get a look into the state of the order and council before the phantom menace and see the factors that are slowly eating at the order. Highly recommend.
