Story
There are things that women want and things that women need. I know deep down, with every fiber in my body, that I need Mr. Ward. He started out as my landscape designer but became so much more. Now, my life is on the line while living with the devil himself. I have been torn down and broken, and I don’t think I can take anymore. The man I need was never the one I married. No, the man I need is the one I was never supposed to have. He’s the one who showed me gentleness, kindness, and true love. Ward would put up a fight for me at any cost.

It started as as a simple search for a landscape designer. I wanted a beautiful backyard for my new home, and my neighbors suggested I look into ward landscaping and design. The owner had no pictures of himself on his website. Just a portfolio of nice outdoor sitting areas, pools, and vibrant gardens that I’d always dreamed of having. Of course, I hired him. I expected to meet an average guy, but Mr. Marcel Ward is far from your average man.

Story
When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.

Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

In this thrillingly twisty tale of seduction, betrayal, and obsession, a scorned wife isn’t the only one looking for answers—at any price …
Adira Smith-Cortez knows how to turn around a troubled past. Now she’s a selfmade multi-millionaire who takes exquisite care of herself and her only true love: her husband, Gabriel. Adira has it all—except the answer to one tormenting question: why is attentive, affectionate Gabriel cheating on her—with not just one, but two women. There’s sexy Jocelyn, a club owner. And then there’s Julianna, a celebrity makeup artist he’s even crazier about. In a tricky twist, vengeful Jocelyn offers Adira the perfect plan to get her straying spouse back …
It sounds simple: Adira will befriend Julianna through a fake identity, play on her and Gabriel’s vulnerabilities and cause them to split up permanently. Determined to reclaim her happiness, Adira won’t—can’t—stop to think what could possibly go wrong …
Until too many of Gabriel’s lies start adding up to a disquieting truth. Until Julianna discovers who Adira really is—and Jocelyn pushes Adira to ever-more-unthinkable extremes. Waking up to a text asking why you stood up your blind date is not the best way to start the day, especially when the man in question is standing half-dressed in your kitchen. I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work - starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way. But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world? Only there’s so much more to him than that. Billionaire playboy? Check. Troubled soul? Check.

My name is Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Fashion Magazine, and I had the world at my fingertips. A successful career, loads of money, and beautiful women who were always at my beck and call. My problem? I lived under the shadow of my mother, who started the company over 30 years ago. Not to mention her being married and divorced six times, which left a bad taste in my mouth as far as relationships were concerned.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the dark to my sister’s light - the awkward loner to her social butterfly. Growing up, she had it all: our parent’s unyielding approval, perfect grades, a permanent spot at the popular table, and the attention of the hottest guy ever - Duke Kincaid. After 18 years of living in her shadow, I couldn’t wait to escape - to finally be my own person. Yet here I am - back in my hometown, once again in Valorie’s shadow. Only now, it’s eternal.

I saw her first. Blonde. Gorgeous. Feisty. I was smitten. But it didn’t matter because she chose him, and he was my best friend and roommate. I’d never be able to compete with that, so I pushed her away instead. It was easy when she lived hours away, and I didn’t have to see her every day, but then she moved in with us. Now, I’m screwed. From her singing in the shower every morning, dancing in the kitchen while she makes coffee, and doing yoga in our living room, I can’t stop thinking about her in all the wrong ways.

How did I go from being insulted by Charlee Cox to hiring her to be my assistant? How is it that she’s chaos in color - making me crazy and my life better at the same time? I never thought I would be staring down at her bright blue eyes begging me to go along with the ridiculous scheme I suggested. Yes, I suggested it. Like the idiot I am, I thought hey, why not start an HR nightmare and have my assistant ask me to marry her? Confused? Don’t worry, so am I.

Although, it involves a sledgehammer and perfectly good drywall, so maybe you can’t. She doesn’t look or act like any government employee I’ve met, and I’m determined to uncover her secrets. When I lean in, I lean in hard. But so does Vivian. Now that we’re incinerating the bedsheets, we’re in way over our heads. What started out as physical infatuation quickly morphs into more.

Coaching was never this difficult…until the rookie came along. I had no idea Amber Lakes would become a constant light in my miserable life. Her smile isn’t supposed to warm my heart, and the sight of her tears isn’t supposed to make want to protect her. We’re not supposed to touch, let alone kiss. We definitely aren’t supposed to exchange hidden stares while we’re around each other. Why? Because I stand to lose everything if we’re caught. But I’ve fallen too hard, and despite how big the risks are, I can’t seem to pull away from her.

This is not a book I would recommend to anyone, especially through audible. It was read with so much theatrics! The twist was not very creative and everything happened towards the end of the book. I only listened to it to the end because I had invested time into it already.

Hard to listen to
The narration of this book made it hard to listen to. It’s a shame, because I feel like the storyline would probably be really good had it not been for the terrible narration.

Great story; not so great narration
The narration for this story threw me off because it was so inconsistent. One character should have the same voice. It was hard to follow along until I realized what was happening. Other wise the story was great!

Not a good listen
The story was overshadowed by the narration. Narrators are not good at all. Over-exaggeration and every character but main narrator used exclamation and excitement for every character. Secondary narrator was slightly better but read each line so many thoughts were broken like reading words on a page not narrating a story. Not much of a thriller but the twist at then was definitely one I didn’t see coming. Maybe this book is a better read than listen.

Not a good listen
The story felt jumbled and the narration was grating at times. I had a rough time getting through it.

Confusing
Did not like the narration at all . The story was ok but some parts seemed unnecessary

Readers don’t match the content.
Adira the main characters vocal
expressions don’t match what she was going through and the way she voiced Jocelyn is over the top . The book seems to be drug out with empty content until the twist at the end. Not entertaining or thrilling at all. I would not recommend.

Meh
I don’t think this belongs in the thriller category. A nice twist at the end but that’s about it. The main character is annoying lol
