Publisher's summary

Michael Freeman is a disabled veteran who had just been fired from his mind-numbing cubicle job, which allowed his opportunistic girlfriend to dump him. Now, he only wants to spend some time at his grandfather's mountain cabin so he can unwind, away from the drudgery of daily life and with a cold beer in his hands.

Standing in his way is an ancient spaceship with an emotional AI, nanites that have invaded his body, an international crime syndicate, a suicidal FBI agent on a vigilante mission, terrorists . . . and that's just the beginning.

What can one man do when faced with insurmountable odds? Call it quits? Or . . . call some of his old army buddies and blow those obstacles to smithereens?

Can he become more than he had ever dreamed, reaching further than any man before? Staying under the radar of the powers that be while righting a few wrongs of the modern world.

He is sure of three things: 1. He really doesn't want to follow the rules anymore . . . aside from his own; 2. Space is the ultimate frontier, and he had been given a turnkey technology to reach it—if they let him; and 3. Those that want to hurt him and the people he cares about will rue the day they were born.

20% Sci-Fi, 80% terrorist shoot-‘em-up, power fantasy.

This audiobook is actually pretty good for what it is. I was hoping for a bit more sci-fi imagination, but what I got was more like a terrorist thriller.

I should say though that I am grading on a curve here. Given how terrible the average bestsellers are in the gung-ho, military fiction genre, any book where the dialog doesn’t make you cringe, and the plot holes are small enough that you have to actually pay attention to notice them must be given some credit.

There isn’t a whole lot of nuance here, but the story kept me engaged if a little dubious, and the narration was well done. If you’re looking for a “guy finds a spaceship in his back yard, and discovers new horizons” kind of book then this will probably disappoint. However if you’re ok with, “ex-soldier finds a spaceship in his back yard, and uses it to own the bad guys and rail against government corruption,” then you might enjoy this book.

Ron Swanson fights the illuminate with spaceship

Actually despite the ludicrous circumstances and blatant political propaganda in the story. The story is not all that bad.as soon as you realize what it is. It’s a sci if action cliché story told by a anti government right wing ron Swanson type.

Great story concept

Enjoyed the book great story line very well written. Only thing that was annoying was the 2 measuring systems. It was not necessary. Pick 1 measuring system it would make things flow better.

Solid Story

I enjoyed it and look forward to continuing the tale. Good potential for chaos to grow globally and make this an exciting adventure. Who wouldn’t love discovering a super advanced spaceship that comes with high tech goodies to improve life and warfare?

Nice intro

Fast paced book. Narration was super and some of the twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Hope the rest of the series is this good.
