Another M.Z. Masterpiece

I grinned so hard.
I'm a huge fan of Mariana Zapata books! Her banter, sarcasm, sense of humor, the way the characters get to know each other slowly before becoming friends, then lovers, and through it all.. we readers are a fly on wall getting to know the characters, understand them, root for them...

Then, Mariana takes it one step further and makes all these things happen in a sci-fi book...on earth...with a superhero alien that's a family oriented grumpy version of Superman. And while Gracie may be as nosey as a reporter, she's no Lois Lane. I couldn't even imagine liking a superhero book, but she makes it work!! The side characters are equally amazing, especially Grandmother!

I feel like someone challenged Mariana to take her skills to the next level, and she unlocked this SUPERskill. I'm excited for more! If you're considering this book, I will say that the synopsis did NOT do it justice. It didn't read like an action-packed hero book. It reads like any other Mariana book...it just so happens that the grump has a job as a superhero ... we aren't following his job. We're following his love story.

Callie IS Mariana's Voice. I'm soooo happy they used her. She did fantastic as a narrator.

Mariana can do no wrong!

I love everything Mariana writes. Gracie and the Grump did not disappoint. it's so different from her norm but also the same. If familiar with her work, you know what I mean. This book engaged all of my emotions. I truly enjoyed laughing and being afraid at the same time. I especially loved Gracie's wishes of harm. She came up with some really good ones 😅

Why is everything she writes gold?! I laughed, I loved, I want to be the characters. Read it now!

Wow!

I didn’t know what to expect when I started listening. It isn’t what I expected from this author.. I didn’t think i would like it but I kept listening. I probably would not listen to this again but I am not sorry I bought it. Wonderful readers!!!

Unexpected

Maybe I should not have been surprised when the male protagonist was written as an actual superhero (not unlike Superman), but I was-surprised, that is. Several of Ms. Zapata’s themes were present in the story such as hard work pays off, and that strong, tall, good looking men fall for feisty, petite, and smart young women. The first half of the story was great and held my interest. However the plot went on too long and the ending was weak. Wall of Winnipeg remains my favorite ❤️

So surprising!

This book was an unexpected delight. The author took time to develop the characters and their story. It was so unexpected and I enjoyed every minute of the audible narration.

Loved it!

Very different to her other books (all highly recommended!) in some ways, and yet still the same brilliant funny and relatable characters as ever.
Go listen and fall in love.

I love Mariana Zapata books so very much! She writes some of the best slow burns out there!! Thank you so much for have Callie Dalton on this, it’s not the same without her.

Another great Slow Burn!

Alex and Gracie's story is unique and yet still in the same writing style as Mariana Zapatas other slow burn romances. I love the internal monolog, the banter between the two and her ability to talk about real things of relationships with lightness.
I will read it again. The narration is great! The duet style is my favorite.

Another Good one.

Mariana Zapata tells great love stories. I love the narrator choices. Callie Dalton never seems to fail a character and Connor Crais was a great choice for Alexander.
