In this inspiring memoir—the antidote to the “just quit your job and ditch all your belongings to backpack the world” mentality—a young woman explores how she took calculated risks to follow her dreams: traveling and living abroad without sacrificing stability and comfort. Publisher's summary
In her inimitably funny and feel-good way, social media star Kacie Rose offers a refreshingly honest take on navigating a new life abroad in You Deserve Good Gelato, covering everything from travel fails and homesickness to the joy of culture shocks and the power of doing the s*** that scares you. Because life is too short not to.
Kacie decided to leave her life as a pro dancer in New York City and move to Italy in 2021—and she never looked back. Okay, that isn't strictly true...
In You Deserve Good Gelato, Kacie reflects on the pure terror of driving on Italian roads, the trials of speaking a new language (and getting it horribly, horribly wrong), and the genuine beauty of a slower pace of life, all with humour and heart. And by sharing her personal stories of life under the Tuscan sun, Kacie explains how travel is a privilege, why cultural differences are the coolest things in the world, and how there's a positive you can take away from literally any situation.
You Deserve Good Gelato will have you buying that ticket and embracing this big, beautiful world that we all call home.

Story
The “mountain men” were the hunters and trappers who fiercely strode the Rocky Mountains in the early to mid-1800s. They braved the elements in search of the skins of beavers and other wild animals, to sell or barter for goods. The lifestyle of the mountain men could be harsh, existing as they did among animals, and spending most of their days and nights living and camping out in the great unexplored wilds of the Rockies.

Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. Mary assumed duties as the island’s district nurse.

Finally, the right time, and the right tour. In the summer of 2004, after three decades, 20 gold albums, and thousands of performances, the band Rush embarked on a 30th Anniversary World Tour. The "R30" tour traveled to nine countries, where the band performed 57 shows for more than half a million fans. Uniquely, Peart chose to do his between-show traveling by motorcycle, riding 21,000 miles of back roads.

All Things Are Too Small is brilliant cultural and literary critic Becca Rothfeld’s plea for derangement: imbalance, obsession, gluttony, and ravishment in all domains of life, from literature to romance. In a healthy culture, Rothfeld argues, economic security allows for wild aesthetic experimentation and excess, yet in our contemporary world, we’ve got it flipped. The gap between rich and poor yawns hideously wide, while we compensate with misguided attempts to effect equality in love and art, where it does not belong.

You are worthy. Live like it.
So much “pasta” to digest in this book.
First, love hearing Kacie’s story in her own words. She did a fantastic job with narrating, as expected.
Second, since becoming a widow 8 yrs ago, I’ve wanted to travel where we had always hope to go. I want to do it solo as going with anyone else, feels awkward. Listening to this, it makes me want to step out of my comfort zone and book the dang trip. Naysayers, be damned!
Kacie speaks with bold honesty and brave openness about her specific journey, all the ups and downs.
Maybe I’m taking it out of context, as I am a product of a proud military, “USA” family, however a few parts about explaining to Europeans the “pledge of allegiance”, “living to work, not working to live” and some, if not most, Americans don’t travel locally or globally caught me off guard. I don’t know if some Americans choose to live quite happy lives living in their rural towns or not traveling globally even if they could. Let me be clear—By no means was Kacie at all judging others or bashing her home country. She was just speaking her mind unapologetically & I love she finally (as you will hear) felt free to do so.
Simply stated, listening to her book, it’s clear she loves many things about Italy far better than she does about the US (healthcare, slower pace) and that’s fantastic. It does sound freaking amazing.
All in all, It makes for a great conversation piece on what individuals can do to improve their own situation. Stop wishing and hoping. Just do it!

So Inspiring!!
I’ve worked with Kacie as a travel agent, she planned a 3 week trip for my family to Italy. I knew she was funny, engaging, sweet, and interesting but she is so much more! This book is so enjoyable! I devoured it! I’m giving hard copies to my daughters and all the young women in my life. Kacie found a whole new world by taking that first step, a solo trip that she always wanted to try. It changed her life. Read that again, it CHANGED her life. In a huge way!! Go for the trip! Take the new job! Move to the new city! Write the book! Eat the good gelato! Kacie is proof you just have to try!

Do the Shit that Scares You!
Kacie is inspirational and real. She’s doesn’t sugar coat the hard times of life because they are sometimes necessary for the good. I hope to meet her one day, hopefully on a group trip. What a dream! ✨ All the emotions of life for a traveler at heart. It’s time to do the shit that scares me because I deserve good gelato 🍨

On self accountability in keeping friends "who maybe don't-or can't-allow us to be our full, true, sparkly selves."
Brava! Making yourself small to make others more comfortable is so pre-2020(😉) Find your people! They are out there, your community is waiting. It is a beautiful message with wonderful scenery painted throughout. It was fun to watch you follow your true path with small signs pointing the way of you're paying attention. Thank goodness for that woman at Lululemon, huh? Grazie Kacie, this was a fun and uplifting read.

Her grit to move forward
I follow her on IG and YouTube. I’m not where she is in life as I’ve done everything I wanted to and more. I’m winding my career down towards retirement. However, listening to her story, her bravery, embracing her failures and getting on with life anyway was so inspiring. I don’t know her but I’m rooting 110% for her. Nice read that has substance but also makes you feel good! Best of luck to this young lady and “read” or read the book!!

Kacie’s “realness.”
Love following Kacie on socials, and enjoyed a bit of a deeper dive into her motivations and experiences.
