Publisher's summary

Miss Marple: The Complete Story Collection gathers together in one magnificent volume all of Agatha Christie’s short stories featuring her beloved intrepid investigator, Miss Marple. It’s an unparalleled compendium of murder, mayhem, mystery, and detection that represents some of the finest short form fiction in the crime fiction field, and is an essential omnibus for Christie fans.

Described by her friend Dolly Bantry as “the typical old maid of fiction,” Miss Marple has lived almost her entire life in the sleepy hamlet of St. Mary Mead. Yet, by observing village life she has gained an unparalleled insight into human nature—and used it to devastating effect. As her friend Sir Henry Clithering, the ex-Commissioner of Scotland Yard, has been heard to say: “She’s just the finest detective God ever made”—and many Agatha Christie fans would agree.

A must for Christie fans!

Love Marple -this collection is a must have for Christie fans. Truly a classic. As a shorty story compilation it’s great for “bite sized” listening.

The narrator and her voice changes amazing

Haven't even finished, and yet I have to say how much I love the narrator. listening to her voice change is remarkable. as hard as I tried to spot the killer, I don't know British slang and terms, so I was lost but loved the stories non the less.

Great mysteries

Definitely worth listening to. Entertaining and engaging. I only figured out a couple of them before the end. The reader is fabulous! She a did good job with the masculine and feminine voices without sounding fake. Well done!

A highly enjoyable listen!

These Miss Marple short stories are narrated by the excellent Juliet Stevenson. She is one of my all-time favorite narrators. Christie, Marple, and Stevenson make a wonderful combination. Enjoy listening!

Easily one of my favorite sets of stories!

I absolutely loved this book. A little old lady from a small village with one of the sharpest minds around, using her wisdom gained through experience and knowledge of the village drama to connect the dots in crimes old and new (and even imaginary) where everyone else, including the reader, is left stumped on at least one front.
I love how the book is a reflection of the time period; it's so funny to see phrases we'd consider modern slang used nearly a hundred years ago.
I love Dame Agatha Christie's wit, and how her characters sometimes hide the meaning of their words behind very proper and polite phrasing (whether their real meaning is an insult, or an improper intention carefully tucked into a respectable excuse, I laughed out loud several times.) This collection of stories has absolutely cemented Dame Agatha Christie as one of my favorite authors, and Miss Marple as one of my favorite characters.

The narrator for this story was absolutely perfect- she did several different accents for the different characters, and the way she changed the tone of her voice to fit the characters' genders and age was very good- not distracting at all! I was able to get fully immersed into the story, and the voices she used for the characters fit them perfectly. I really hope to find her narrating more of the books I'll be listening to in the future!

Love Juliet Stevenson, Love Agatha Christie but…

It is almost embarrassing how many Agatha Christie audiobooks and long books read by Juliet Stevenson are in my library. They are both my most valued audiobook categories.

But this set of stories was a real disappointment.

The plots felt repetitive and farfetched. The format of having different people at a dinner party sharing their stories seemed limiting as you have to learn a whole new set of characters with each chapter. And it’s no spoiler to say that Miss Marple’s solving of these mysteries seems miraculous and incredible rather than the usual product of a slow accrual of facts and insights (that she is able to gain thanks in part to others underestimating her).

In her best books, we see Miss Marple grappling with pieces that don’t fit. This doesn’t happen in these stories where she is almost effortlessly omniscient.

Worst of all, Juliet Stevenson, who creates the perfect voices for even minor characters in other books, does not embody Miss Marple very well. Miss Marple seems kind of annoying and high pitched in this telling — a know-it-all aunt you’d be glad to be rid of after a long visit.

All in all, a disappointment after expecting so much more from my favorites, Juliet Stevenson and Agatha Christie.
