Publisher's summary

A debut novel full of magic, adventure, and romance, The Book of Doors opens up a thrilling world of contemporary fantasy for fans of The Midnight Library, The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, The Night Circus, and any modern story that mixes the wonder of the unknown with just a tinge of darkness.

Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading.

But this is no ordinary book…

It is the Book of Doors.

Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Then she’s approached by a gaunt stranger in a rumpled black suit with a Scottish brogue who calls himself Drummond Fox. He’s a librarian who keeps watch over a unique set of rare volumes. The tome now in Cassie’s possession is not the only book with great power, but it is the one most coveted by those who collect them.

Now Cassie is being hunted by those few who know of the Special Books. With only her roommate Izzy to confide in, she has to decide if she will help the mysterious and haunted Drummond protect the Book of Doors—and the other books in his secret library’s care—from those who will do evil. Because only Drummond knows where the unique library is and only Cassie’s book can get them there.

But there are those willing to kill to obtain those secrets. And a dark force—in the form of a shadowy, sadistic woman—is at the very top of that list.

Editorial Review

Equal parts adventure and fantasy
Seeing Miranda Raison (who exceptionally narrated one of my favorites, Lessons in Chemistry) as the performer, plus the stunning cover in The Book of Doors was all the convincing it took for me to download the title. The story is centered on Cassie Andrews, a bookstore employee who inherits a mysterious book with strange inscriptions from an elderly customer who was very dear to her. Shorty after Cassie discovers how to use the book—which can open a door to anyplace she desires—she’s approached by Drummond Fox, a librarian who not only claims that there is danger coming for Cassie, but that he is the only one who can help. The Book of Doors is equal parts adventure and fantasy that, combined with Raison’s stellar performance, has left me wondering if we will hear more about other "books" from debut author Gareth Brown. — Audible Editor, Patty R.

Loved It!

I enjoy a good time travel/time loop book, like Ken Grimwood's Replay, and this book caught my attention. It reads mostly like a fantasy book, but part way through it, time travel becomes an important element of the novel. It's well written and the characters are described nicely. The narration is excellent. Like a good detective story, clues are given along the way, which don't all fit into pieces until the end of the book. As such, I chose to re-listen to it a second time so as not to miss anything - and it was still enjoyable.
I'd love and encourage a sequel if the author is planning to write one.

Book of Awe

You know, every now and then you come across something incredibly special. In this case, this book shines. It is special, it has so many emotions and elements, the characters are perfectly imperfect and their adversaries are well thought out. The ripple effect.. on how things/actions and reactions shape reality is profound. The Book of Doors- is something so special, something worth reading, savoring, and appreciating.

Amazing read

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it’s a gorgeous story. I wish we’d had a bit more at the end, but still great.

One of the BEST

Narration is critical to an exceptional audible book and this book was exceptional! It was just the escape I was looking for. I love Alice Hoffman and Neil Gaiman and this author rated among them!

I truly love a book that can keep on surprising me

Great book, great reading of the book.
I have to admit I was not emotionally ready for it to end. It is one of the few books that seems to completely wrap up every loose end in good fashion.
