there are a lot of good advices and great information on the subject in the short book, but the potty mouth doesn't add anything. still, worth the time.

Not that great. Not a good first read for learning about depression

The narration is the absolute worst. It sounds like it was derived from text-to-speech software. The cussing isn’t a big deal IMO, the pearl-clutching over this fact is overblown. That said, the writing style here is weird. There’s a strain created by the author’s desire to be come across as relevant, authentic, and modern while also maintaining clinically accurate and clear discussion of these topics. The insertion of f bombs and slang terms, while sometimes acceptable, often appear in very random of places such as an otherwise clinical explanation of depression. This writing style is therefore jarring to me, and she ends up coming across as someone who’s trying to pander to someone two or three generations their junior.

It’s also worth noting that while she had me in the beginning but lost me when she began referring to naturopathy as something that was gaining popularity in clinical treatment because of the evidence-based science supporting it. FYI, that doesn’t exist. It’s sad to see that in 2023, people and even professionals still get duped into buying snake oil.

Helpful and tender

Great book, funny and informative. There’s something for anyone that has any degree of depression. Advice is dispensed with tenderness.

Read me like a book!

This book was amazing! I feel like I walked with an even better understanding and acceptance of what I am fighting. I have already developed my physical plan but I lacked the mental plan. This book definitely breaks it down for me so that I can better understand what my next move should be and it prepares me for what I need to do to combat with my thoughts and emotions.

on point

helped me gain some insight on what depression is and made it easier to explain to someone who hasn't been diagnosed with bipolar depression.

Not as good as 2 books written by same author!

Gives the facts about all kinds of depression within a somewhat cut and dry and boring overview. The presentation was not what I expected after reading two previous books she wrote on the brain and on anger which were direct and factual but also were at times funny and entertainung.

Thought it was gonna be touchy feely

I thought it was gonna be about depression journals and touchy feely...although a short book...it did have great info and suggestions....and her writing style made me feel really comfortable like a friend who us really smart is talking to me about deppression and possible solutions. Great book...because she talks in an every day way swearing and all....it made believe in trying out the suggestions even more as if a friend was helping me then if I heard the same thing from an author who seemed far away from the subject and you are being treated by a professional who can't relate and you are a patient and they are just doling out a cookie cutter prescription to. I appreciated that most from the book.
