awful narration

The story itself is absolutely wonderful. IMO, a 5 star book. However, the narrators really took away from the experience of it. Tisaanah's voice is portrayed as soft and meek when in the story her character is reflected as strong and having used brute force to succeed in all she does. A strong female lead. The narrator did not do her justice, but read well enough. Max's narrator, was like nails against a chalkboard. It was breathy and monotone and still managed to sound like every word was a question. There was no rhythm or emotion in his reading and made Max's POV very difficult to focus on and retain. I LOVE this book, but I highly suggest you go for a physical copy if you want to enjoy this story to the fullest.

Great listen, slow start

This book was so good. Loved the FMC, loved the plot, the romance and that lead into book 2! It does have a bit of a slow start, I was about half way through until I was really, truly hooked but I’m so happy I kept at it! 10/10

Dan Canney ruined this book.

I could not handle his constant audible inhaling, sometimes 5+ times per sentence. If Esther was the only narrator I'd probably give it 4 stars all around. He made it such an absolute chore to finish that I absolutely won't continue this series because I can see his name attached to the other two books, which is a massive shame, because I really did enjoy it.

Dan, meanwhile, has probably become my least favorite narrator.

Narration is a disappointment

I've only listened to 90 books. However, this has got to have the worst narration. But the story is quite appealing and redeeming.

Fantastic

This story...the narrators...it was just fantastic! I was so quickly sucked in and had to make myself stop listening! I highly recommend!

Fantastic story

The male narrator is not as good as the female one. However, the plot is quite fantastic.

Awful male narration

Male narrator's reading is so distracting with the way he takes a breath. Cannot finish this audiobook.

Wow!

That last frikkin line though! 😳😱 this was a lot! I feel like I can't say much about the actual story without giving anything away. So I'll just say this was amazing! I loved this story and the character growth was on point! As far as narrators I don't love that the male narrator takes gasping breathes every time he speaks. It takes me out of the story. I have an auditory processing disorder and that sound made me insane. Other than that this story was fantastic and I can't WAIT to see what happens next!

Great but Flawed

There is so much I loved about this book and some that I hated, so unfortunately I can only rate it three stars, my rating for "Good enough to finish but I'd never listen to a sequel."

The writing, in general, was on point despite being done in the amateur first person. I say amateur because most amateurs start off with it because they think it is easier, but in actuality it cripples one's storytelling ability unless they are very talented. Fortunately, this author is talented enough to pull it off.

Unfortunately, writing in first person leads us to the male narrator that pops out of nowhere in chapter 40 or so and ruins the audio. Even more unfortunately, around this same time we are introduced to a completely asinine weapon that has a mind of its own and pretty much kills indiscriminately when unleashed, so the idea that even an evil person would want to use it is ridiculous if that evil person isn't a complete idiot.I hated pretty much all of the rest of the book after its introduction, both for the flawed premise and the predictable ramifications of its use.

I was on the fence as to whether to listen to the sequel after struggling with most of the rest of the book, but seeing that Mr. Breathy is still narrating part of it, I'll give it a hard pass.

Great Book, horrible male narrator

The story itself is wonderfully written. The female narrator is amazing. The prose of the story is absolutely amazing. But the male reader sounds like he’s reading while he walks up 20 flights of stairs. I’ll be purchasing the next book on kindle instead.
