Resumen del Editor
Big as a mountain and stronger than a grizzly bear, Paul Bunyan was the greatest lumberjack ever to swagger through the North American forests. All the larger-than-life characters in Paul's supporting cast are here, including Babe the Blue Ox, eating her ton of grain a day, and Hotbiscuit Sally, with her acre-and-a-half griddle. The outrageous adventures of this quintessential American hero represent the very best in the proud tradition of American storytelling. Actor and comedian Jonathan Winters narrates the tale, accompanied by original music performed by Leo Kottke with Duck Baker. Ages four and up. Part of the award-winning Rabbit Ears series, American Heroes and Legends.

After a grizzly kills his pa, Zach struggles to survive a cold and brutal winter alone. After killing a rouge grizzly and fighting hostile Indians on his own, he becomes known as Grizzly Killer and is respected throughout the West. Along with his dog, Jimbo, whom the Indians call the Great Medicine Dog, he finds Running Wolf, an injured Ute warrior, and together they fight off a hostile war party. The Trees is the story of an American family in the wilderness - a family that "followed the woods as some families follow the sea." The time is the end of the 18th century, the wilderness is the land west of the Alleghenies and north of the Ohio River. But principally, The Trees is the story of a girl named Sayward, eldest daughter of Worth and Jary Luckett, raised in the forest far from the rest of humankind, yet growing to realize that the way of the hunter must cede to the way of the tiller of soil.

Historia
1838: James and Sadie Goodenough have settled where their wagon got stuck - in the muddy, stagnant swamps of northwest Ohio. They and their five children work relentlessly to tame their patch of land, buying saplings from a local tree man known as John Appleseed so they can cultivate the 50 apple trees required to stake their claim on the property. But the orchard they plant sows the seeds of a long battle. James loves the apples, reminders of an easier life back in Connecticut; while Sadie prefers the applejack they make, an alcoholic refuge from brutal frontier life.

Short sweet tall tale
This was a cute but very short tale of Paul Bunyan, his oxen Babe and his crew of loggers who "cleared the forests of Dakota for president Teddy Roosevelt". It was a sweet tall tale. My grandchildren and I literally listened to this 30 minute vignette in line at the drive thru pharmacy.
It was quick, entertaining and thoroughly pg rated entertainment. Also sweetly nostagic as it was narrated by the late great Jonathan Winters.

PANCAKES
BABE
At a young age, I really loved Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill and John Henry. Jonathan Winters was my parents' favorite comedian. I liked him too. To hear Winters voice again, almost brought tears to my eyes, so this book was great for me. I also loved Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Green Jeans, Tom Terrific, the bunny that never talked and the moose. Things have changed so much, that I will seriously have to say, I don't think my grandkids would like this. I think they would be bored. I also think it is gender specific. Little boys who have an illustrated book to follow along with this, might enjoy it. This would be most enjoyed by old men, who wanted to remember their childhood or big fans of Jonathan Winters, who does a fantastic job. If you are too young to know Winters, he was the Robin Williams of our time, if your too young for Robin Williams, well I can't help you there.
