Resumen del Editor

Charles Darnay is a French noble falsely accused of treason. Sydney Carton is a self-loathing junior barrister enlisted to defend him. Between them is a shared love for the daughter of a former Bastille prisoner. Soon, their interlocking fates will be decided, as the French Revolution is ignited and the Reign of Terror begins.

Charles Dickens's belief in renaissance is borne out in this epic novel - as cities are overthrown and transformed, as cynics become selfless heroes, and as a "recall to life" becomes not only possible but necessary, for the individual and for society.

AmazonClassics brings you timeless works from the masters of storytelling. Ideal for anyone who wants to listen to a great work for the first time or rediscover an old favorite, these new editions open the door to literature's most unforgettable characters and beloved worlds.

Not a story to listen to

The story was difficult to follow and not one to listen to unless you can see the words and physically read it. After a while, it became a book for background noise. I would not recommend listening to this book. Go to the library and check it out. I hear that it’s real classic.

Liberté?

"A Tale of Two Cities" is a slow burn, but it well deserves its place among classic literature. The novel begins years before the French Revolution, and continues well into the Reign of Terror. while one might expect a broad narrative based on the historical significance of its setting, it is really a story about a family. It deals with romance, duty, honor, sacrifice, mental illness, justice, freedom, love, and hate. This audiobook adds to the story with the narrator's decision to give interesting voices to each character, and reading alongside an audiobook enhances comprehension.

Wonderful

I read this book as an undergraduate 50 years ago and, obviously, it was as new to me. Our Mutual Friend has always been the favorite Dickens; I’ve read it several times.

But listening to A Tale of Two Cities was a delightfully illuminating experience. Excellent narration with just the right amount of emphasis at the most stressful moments of Dicken’s serpentine plot and purely joyful demarcations between the characters, both English and French.

Dickens is known as a great writer and, sometimes, an even greater sentimentalist. This last characteristic is absolutely perfect for the horrid circumstances of the revolutionary characters in the middle of the Great French Revolution and in the innocent English characters in the story. . Every societal layer of this tumult is presented as individuals, some light, some transformed into animals by blood thirst.

Highly recommended.

Serious issues.

Book randomly ends in section 40. When is should end in section 49. It replaces words like country with USA. So it says the USA of France. Makes no sense. It does a ton of random things like that. Another example instead of saying sweet child It says candy child. It repeats phases over and over like advertising and marketing and advertising and marketing and advertising and marketing and advertising and marketing and advertising and marketing and. What the heck is that. I also purchased the audible version without it I would have been complete lost and missed so much. Serious issues.

There are so many issues and they are so big you would like it was a big joke.

Could not wait for it to be over

I strongly disliked the reader. The different voices used for the characters were often painful to listen to. Some of the voices were higher pitched and increased in volume compared to the narration. I started and stopped this book at least four times. Very difficult to listen to, and I couldn’t wait for it to be finished
