Publisher's summary

They’re hoping this visit is a return journey—but it might be a one-way ticket to murder.

July 1912. Lady Hardcastle and her tenacious lady’s maid, Florence Armstrong, are enjoying a convivial gathering at the home of their dear friends, the Farley-Strouds. The only fly in the idyllic ointment seems to be the lack of musical entertainment for the forthcoming summer party—until, that is, Lady Hardcastle’s brother Harry calls with news of a murder.

Harry dispatches them to Bristol on behalf of the Secret Service Bureau, with instructions to prevent the local police from uncovering too much about the victim. It seems an intriguing mystery—all the more so when they find a connection between the killer and an impending visit from an Austrian trade delegation, set to feature a very important guest…

Summoned to London to help with some very important security arrangements, the intrepid duo will have to navigate sceptical bureaucrats, Cockney gangsters and shadowy men in distinctive hats in their attempts to foil an explosive—and internationally significant—threat.

The Best Yet

I've loved every Lady Hardcastle book T.E. has written. The narrator of the audio books is superb! She makes the story come alive. I give her 10 stars!

Might be my favorite Lady Hardcastle

I thoroughly enjoyed that this plot let the reader see Lady Hardcastle and Flo return to their old strengths. It was especially fun to hear them put various men in their place as only they can.

loved it

I have yet to read a Lady Hardcastle Mystery that I didn't like. My husband and I love to listen to the audiobooks when we travel. The narration is fabulous. Elizabeth Knowelden becomes Flo in telling their story. I always get the audiobook for that reason. I couldn't possibly imagine the voices as well as she narrates. It is perfection.
I can appreciate a good murder mystery but I don't enjoy blood and gore or high tension and angst so I love the cozy mystery aspect of this series. I love the humor between Lady C and Flo. Basically I just love the book. The characters are so much fun so the stories are a delight to listen to.

Twists and turns make this such a fun read!

Lady Hardcastle and Flo are at it again. This time we get to see them going through one of their mysterious “missions” first hand! I definitely didn’t see that ending coming! Assassination on the Agenda was just as thrilling and enjoyable as the rest of the series has been, if not more. Highly recommended!

Thoroughly Enjoyed This One!

I've been a fan of this series since the beginning but this addition has a slightly different feel to it. It feels like the author has hit his stride.

This is not 'just' a murder mystery. The focus is on the efforts to stop an assassination attempt which could (did) start WWI.

While the core relationships still hold firm, we get the opportunity to see Lady Hardcastle and Flo do what they do best.

The writing is crisp and the twists and turns kept me hanging in there.

Excellent addition to a great series!

Visiting old friends

It was like visiting old friends. I love the banter between the ladies. I wish they stayed in their little town because I missed the usual cast of characters, but it was as good as the other stories. And the narrator is amazing! I highly recommend it.

Loved it even though it was a spy story

I loved all of the previous books in this series and this book was no exception. I love the candid relationship between Lady Hardcastle and Flo that made the stories very enjoyable. This story, as usual, captured your attention right away and kept it throughout the book. You don’t have to skip forward to get to any progress in the story, you want to listen to every bit of it. Although this was a spy story, it didn’t detract from the nature of the series. It still had the interesting twist and turns in the story. I didn’t anticipate the true culprit. This was a great story to listen to and I love Elizabeth Knoweldon’s narration. She IS Flo to me. Great character voices. This spy story was a change from the previous themes and it was a good break from usual but please don’t make this a trend. I don’t like that Lady Hardcastle and Flo have a boss that they have to obey. I like their relationship with the Bristol Chief Inspector and that they have no organizational structured pattern to follow or answer to. I eagerly look forward to the next book.

Wonderful...

Tiny servant (Flo) and Lady Hardcastle solve another crime and make the world a better place! I can't express how much joy this series has brought to me. It's wholesome and clever and cozy without being corny. Absolutely ♥️♥️♥️ them all.
