Publisher's summary

In this electric and provocative debut novel, Amber Tamblyn blends genres of poetry, prose, and elements of suspense to give shape to the shocking narratives of victims of sexual violence, mapping the destructive ways in which our society perpetuates rape culture, brilliantly brought to life through a multi-voice performance featuring Glenn Davis, Ben Foster, Marc Maron, Jason Ritter, John Roberts, Russ Tamblyn, Amber Tamblyn, January Lavoy, Phoebe Strole, Robin Miles, Thérèse Plummer, Dan Bittner, James Fouhey, and Michael Crouch.

A violent serial rapist is on the loose, who goes by the name Maude. She hunts for men at bars, Online, at home - the place doesn’t matter, neither does the man. Her victims then must live the aftermath of their assault in the form of doubt from the police, feelings of shame, alienation from their friends and family, and the haunting of a horrible woman who becomes the phantom on which society projects its greatest fears, fascinations, and even misogyny. All the while the police are without leads and the media hound the victims, publicly dissecting the details of their attack.

What is extraordinary is how as years pass these men learn to heal, by banding together and finding a space to raise their voices. Told in alternating viewpoints signature to each voice and experience of the victim, this audiobook crackles with emotion, ranging from horror to breathtaking empathy.

As bold as it is timely, Any Man paints a searing portrait of survival and is a tribute to those who have lived through the nightmare of sexual assault.

Perfection!

I was a little skeptical – often times celebrity books are pretty poorly written. Not this one!

It is amazing! I’ve been telling everyone around me about it – so much depth that I want/need to discuss!
It should be required reading- for men ....women.... teenagers... everyone.

Also, I’m pretty picky about the quality of AudioBooks that I enjoy. a poorly read one can destroy a good book. This is truly the best quality of narration and most entertaining audio book I have ever listened to. You WILL NOT Be disappointed.
But if you are a horrible person and don’t like it- It is super easy to return books on audible and get your credit back. You have nothing to lose

True richness, deep complex ideas, a challenge in so many ways. Thought provoking, emotional, contemplative. What talent! From the writing to the readings. Wonderful.

Only Halfway Through and It's Already a Favorite

Don't need to finish to review this book. The writing, which changes to fit each character, is astounding. I keep backing up to listen to parts over again. This has proven helpful in getting over my disappointment in it being such a short book. I suppose I can understand why Any Man had some negative reviews. There are so many people that can't appreciate writing that rises above 'he said/she said'. Those people should avoid books in which the word 'prose' is used in the title details. I wish I knew more 'book people' with whom I could share Ms Tamblyn's writing. I would buy a couple copies to give as gifts but I'd hate to deprive friends of the incredible talent reading this. I'm up to three of the readers and can't decide which I like best. Each is perfect for the way the character is handling their assault. Though Ms Tamblyn's other books appear to be written with different styles I'll still be getting them next as I'm sure her talent comes through in each. Come on and take a chance on this one. You're smart enough.

An amazing story

This takes a look at rape culture as it is now. What if men were being sexually assaulted? Would the world change the way they treated survivors, or would the treatment continue down the path it has always been on; will we ever believe survivors?

A thought provoking and disturbing story

Exactly what society needs today! It's about time we start resensitizing our culture about abuse, violence and sexual assault no matter who the victims are. Ultimately we are all victims until we change the narrative! Great work Amber Tamblyn!

I think I would enjoy in written format more

I struggled a bit listening to the formatting of this story. It’s difficult subject matter but the segmentation as well as the consistent repeating of certain phrases for emphasis and use of lists was a little frustrating. The overall story was interesting, it was a little hard to get attached to the characters with the first person switching but I think that was purposeful. Overall I enjoyed the story but I think I would like it more in a written format.

Grueling introspective look from a female inspired male gaze

This book will pull tears from your eyes and send pangs of pain into your heart. It’s emotion packed, modern day prose is refreshing and connective to our current social media drench society in on how the masses view victimhood and victim blaming when the victim is a man, made venerable as a woman.
