Publisher's summary

Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden.

Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit who fought, went hungry, froze, and died, a company that took 150 percent casualities and considered the Purple Heart a badge of office. Drawing on hours of interviews with survivors as well as the soldiers' journals and letters, Stephen Ambrose tell the stories - often in the men's own words - of these American hereoes.

Critic reviews

"A first-class explanation of what crack infantry troops are like....Addicts of military history will relish its finely detailed account.....Stephen Ambrose's thorough research and clear organization have produced a highly readable account of the heroic service of this "band of brothers" he so unstintedly admires." ( San Francisco Chronicle)
"As a member of just such a unit...I am impressed by how well Mr. Ambrose has captured the true essence of a combat rifle company." (The New York Times Book Review)
"A valuable and fascinating record....In these pages, the reader can vicariously walk with the men of E Company, suffer and laugh with them." (The Times-Picayune)

Best Historic WWII Novel Ever!

What made the experience of listening to Band of Brothers the most enjoyable?

The narrator was excellent, making transitions between character (I say characters for lack of a better word) perspectives, sequence of events, and the exorbitant amount of information provided by the author feel as if the reader is watching it happen.

What other book might you compare Band of Brothers to and why?

There is no other book to compare Band of Brothers to because it is an entity and perhaps genre all it's own.

Which scene was your favorite?

It's really hard to choose a favorite, but I guess I would have to say the Battle of the Bulge with Winters leading the unexpected and unplanned attack against the Germans as they (the Germans) tried to make a sneak attack on the Allied forces.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me proud! Extremely proud to be an American!

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book to everyone no matter what their literary preference is! It is important to know and recognize these historic battles that have preserved freedom for us and the world!

A company of heroes

Spielberg did a great job turning this into a film series. But the book is great to read and is well done in production. Highly recommended.

One of the best books to read about WWII.

I have watched the HBO series on DVD very interesting & amazing. This audio book was very interesting to say the least. I'm a huge WWII history buff anyways. What happen to easy company & a lot of other companies in that war was pretty crazy & how a lot of those men survived & now live & breathe to this day & can remember most of what happened to them & look to helping others. all of them are heroes in my book as far as I'm concerned.

Moving Stories

Phenomenal accounts of a group of WWII heroes. Although I had seen the HBO series (holds very close to the book, high quality), the book gives much more detail.

For the narration, I find it ridiculous that certain words are censored. It’s a gruesome story; don’t deprive the reader/listener of the dialogue of the day.

Band of Brothers an Amazing story.

This book is one the reasons I got so interested in World War Two.
It talks about the great sacrifices the Allied Forces gave to save us and the world we know today. This is an amazing story about not just one brave man but hundreds of brave men who saved the World and died for us. This is a great book and I encourage you to read it.

Historical Masterpiece

I've never felt so equally inspired, horrified, impressed, or emboldened before I read this book. It's a historical masterpiece that is unrivalled in terms of depth, variety, motivation, and, of course, Currahee!
