Publisher's summary

Ezekyle Abaddon and his warlords strive to bind the newborn Black Legion together under threat of destruction. Now Khayon, as Abaddon's most-trusted assassin, is tasked with ending the threat of Thagus Daravek, the self-proclaimed Lord of Hosts - a rival to the Ezekyle's final fate.

Fighting the vile whispers of the Dark Gods within his mind, Abaddon turns a fevered gaze back to the Imperium, where his destiny awaits. Yet the Emperor's Champion and his Black Templars stand guard at the gates of Hell, and Sigismund has waited centuries to face Abaddon in battle.

Excellent follow-up to Talon of Horus

Aaron Dembski-Bowden manages to bridge the tension between the first entry in this series and the eventuality of modern 40k by filling in the gaps where we need to and supplying some fantastic imagery to classic 40k events that a old-school fan knows have to come to pass. What ADB does best, though, is managing to retain tension throughout, and even when he utilizes tangents to build that tension, the layered and dense world-building he manages to pack into just a page or two is nothing short of masterful.

A must hear for every 40k Chaos Space Marine fan.

This book continues where The Talon of Horus ended. A great story about the origins of the Black Legion and how Abaddon got his demon sword.

wow!

I love everything ADB does and this is as good as it gets. I never thought I would find a series from 40k that would make me laugh and have me enthralled while connecting links and opening new doors in the lore. I love this series and can't wait for the next one.

excellent and enjoyable.

loved it. the voice performance was brilliant and the writing was much better than I had expected. often sci-fi it fantasy novels and poorly written . this was a good book besides the genre and I'm impressed.

perfect book and telling with 1 small weirdness

everything was perfect except how the pronouncing of abbadons first name. in book 1 they use a different pronunciation than in the second. that was the only flaw I noticed.

Amazing book

The only issue I feel is the pronunciation of Ezekiel Abbadon's name but that's fine.

Good story great telling sometimes confusing

I love this author and narrator. Flawless reading, great story line. The story gets convoluted frequently with flash backs within flashbacks. Also the main character seems far too powerful. Even primarch’s didn’t express that much power. Also I thought the vengeful spirit was the spear. That’s what the Fabius bile series conveyed.

Good

Great continuation of the story book. Excellent narration as always. Prefer this story and this narrator to the Night Lords trilogy, which I find a little grating. Hope there will be a part 3 to this arc.

Another Chaos Masterpiece

One of the best novels in all of 40K. A must read if you want to understand the inner workings of contemporary Chaos space marine lore.

Crafted and Performed Perfectly

As a narrator myself I keep a few role models. Jonathan Keeble is one of them. His invective, passion and instinctive grasp of the characters in this story - especially the protagonist Khayon - when coupled with Aaron's masterful storycrafting and insight into the characters and their very reasons to exist, will draw you in wholly and completely. I can't listen to anyone read this story aloud other than through Keeble's narration. To me, he *is* Iskandar Khayon, and that is the hallmark of an excellent performer.
