Publisher's summary

A witch. A warlock. A vengeful God.

I fled Spirit Falls as soon as I was old enough, and the Darkwind council was happy to see me go. But it's been 20 years, and they are short on hunters in their supernatural war. So when they offer my son a place in their ranks, I portal myself to the council chambers in anger.

As tempers flare, a bonding rune burns into my skin, and I find myself linked to a hunter I have never met. It's been over a thousand years since a spontaneous bond formed, but my connection to the breach map that warns the magical community of a demon incursion is far more concerning.

Do I accept my fate and my bonded hunter, or allow the Darkwind council to risk my son's life?

Find out what is brewing in the bowels of the underworld by listening to Destiny of Magic, the paranormal women's fiction listeners are comparing to Shannon Mayer, K.F. Breene, and Victoria Dannan.

Great Series Starter

This was a great start to a new series. The character work and story line were well written and kept me entertained.

Naomi Rose-Mock has done a great job of breathing life into this story and making it as fun to listen to as it was to read.

Shannon

This is book 1 in a series. The leading lady is a little older, which I thought was great. Shannon thinks she is an average human, with little magical ability. Surprised, she suddenly finds herself dragged through a portal to a magical place, and soul-bonded. Her parents died when she was young, and she was sent to live in the mundane world. Turns out, she is far from mundane. She may also be the prophesied warrior to save them all. I found the story to be entertaining. I appreciated that not everything went her way, and political intrigue caused problems. And oh, to have a headstrong teenage son. 😊
The story was well written, and characters well developed. Narration was excellent. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Good Start To A Series

This is the first book in the Midlife Demons and Demigods series, and it's got off to a good start. Shannon's a witch who ran from Spirit Falls, her magic heritage and everything she knew to go and live in the world of the mundane (humans). Things went well at first, she married and started a family but now she's divorced and her son is demanding to know why she has lied to him his whole life.

As if that isn't bad enough she soon finds herself at the mercy of the Magic Council with a Rune that has burned into her hand. Then she meets Daryn and together they are tasked with trying to save the world from some demons. On the bright side, she and Daryn seem to be falling in love with each other.

I liked the characters who are easy to relate to as well as leading interesting lives that are quite interesting, they are well-drawn and have depth. Shannon's teenage son Caleb upon discovering that his mother's a witch decides that he wants to be trained as a Hunter. The plot is straightforward, involving stopping the demons from taking over and destroying both the mundane and gifted worlds. But it does end on a cliffhanger being the first of five books.

The narration by Naomi Rose-Mock is well done enabling you to feel all the highs and lows in the story.

Enjoyable

The only thing I didn’t like about this book
is just as I really got into it it come to the finish
so I’m looking forward to the next to see how
things pan out .
All round it was a decent plot and character that
pulled me in.

Fighting your destiny

This book had my interest from the start and left me hanging for book 2. It is suspenseful, entertaining and rooting for Shannon and Daryn. Shannon's parents were witches and hunters, who were killed when she was young. She was run out of town and now years later she is drawn back to this town and on a mission to save the world. This is a good book to read.

Well Worth Listening to

The first book in the Midlife Demons and Demigods series. Shannon and the start of Daryn's story. There is surprise, drama, twists, turns, the Book of the Gods, Hunters, a son Caleb, a parafinai bond and things that happen that she can not control. The story does end with a cliff-hanger. I want to read the next book and maybe listen to it also. I enjoyed listening to Naomi Rose-Mock narrate this story.

After Shannon makes an unexpected portal to the council of Spirit Falls her life gets flipped upside down when her powers are growing along with an "unwanted" bond with the lead hunter.

Hunters & Demons

When Shannon accidently portals into the Hunter headquarters, she's not the only one surprised at the situation. The narrators did a great job in expressing the shock and anger at being bonded to an unknown hunter and expected to join the hunt for demons. I really enjoyed listening to this first part of the series and look forward to the next installment.
