Publisher's summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • When mysterious faeries from other realms appear at her university, curmudgeonly professor Emily Wilde must uncover their secrets before it’s too late, in this heartwarming, enchanting second installment of the Emily Wilde series.
Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore who just wrote the world’s first comprehensive encyclopedia of faeries. She’s learned many of the secrets of the Hidden Ones on her adventures . . . and also from her fellow scholar and former rival Wendell Bambleby.
Because Bambleby is more than infuriatingly charming. He’s an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother and in search of a door back to his realm. And despite Emily’s feelings for Bambleby, she’s not ready to accept his proposal of marriage: Loving one of the Fair Folk comes with secrets and dangers.
She also has a new project to focus on: a map of the realms of faerie. While she is preparing her research, Bambleby lands her in trouble yet again, when assassins sent by his mother invade Cambridge. Now Bambleby and Emily are on another adventure, this time to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where Emily believes they may find the door to Bambleby’s realm and the key to freeing him from his family’s dark plans.
But with new relationships for the prickly Emily to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every forest and hollow, Emily must unravel the mysterious workings of faerie doors and of her own heart.
Book Two of the Emily Wilde Series
Critic reviews
“Like all good fairy tales, this book is enchantingly charming, with hints of razor-sharp teeth. My only complaint is that it ends; I want to live in Emily’s Otherlands forever.” (Kiersten White, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Mister Magic)

In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home.

Just as good as the first, with the addition of some new characters. The narration was perfect. Can’t wait for the next book!

High Adventure
I loved the first Emily Wilde book, and hoped this would be as a good as the first, but I think it was even better. Such a fun book. We have the new characters of Ariadne and Professor Rose and of course Emily and Wendell, not to mention their budding romance. But I would not call it a romance book. It is plain fun and high adventure. Seemed faster paced than the first, and every bit as enjoyable. Narration is fabulous.
If you liked the first book, don’t hesitate to listen to the latest installment. I hope they’ll be a third.

Excellent
Better than the first book and that one was 5 stars too. I love Emily’s prickliness and her focus on her passion for dryadology. She is an amazing character. The narrator is perfect. I did listen to the book at 1.15 speed. I find narrators, in general, speak very slowly

Enchanting sequel
Cozy yet action-packed romantasy balanced on page and in ear. Book 2 is even better than its charming prequel into book 3 (and beyond) in my fave far series.
