Your body is incredible, but it’s also out to destroy you. Your brain is like an early computer operating system, riddled with bad code, slow to load, and more likely to watch cat memes than go to sleep. You’d be a mess without your skeleton, but it can be a bony cage if you’re tortured by backaches, niggling neck pain, and knee joints that crumble under pressure. And your nose is a design disaster, getting blocked, springing leaks, and growing random tufts of hair.

The result is a toxic cocktail of shame and self-loathing that makes it impossible to change our behavior. The Hunger Habit is based on Judson Brewer’s deeply researched plan proven to help us understand what is going on in our brains so that we can heal the shame and overcome overeating.

Publisher's summary
This is NOT your typical weight loss book.
Weight loss books have historically been rife with misinformation. A conveyor belt of diet books pretending to have the latest revolutionary weight loss "hacks", trying to grab your attention with whatever weight loss diet is trending. What is the best diet for you? Is it keto, intermittent fasting, the 5:2 diet or one of the many rapid weight loss plans promising that you can all lose an astronomical amount of weight in a short space of time?
Do you know what doesn't make sense? Telling everyone to follow the same weight loss diet, period. Diets are not one size fits all. We are all different, and a diet plan that your friend is successful with might be a diet plan that doesn’t work for you. We are all individuals with different biology, preferences, and circumstances.
Here are some cold, hard facts:
- It is estimated that half of all adults are attempting to lose weight at least once per year.
- Losing fat is the most sought-after goal in the fitness industry.
- Despite the prevalence of diet attempts, global body weights have been trending upward for the last 50 years.
- Most people who start a weight loss diet only get short-term results and are not successful at keeping that weight off in the long run.
- Many of you feel confused by the huge amount of conflicting weight loss information and feel fed up with hopping from one diet to the next, constantly losing and regaining the same amount of weight.
Rather than pretending to have the universal solution for everyone, Everything Fat Loss comprehensively explains and summarizes what the research actually says about every major fat loss topic to help you formulate a plan that works for you.
No gimmicks. No overhyped marketing. No cookie-cutter diet plans. No false promises.
This is the ultimate scientific resource on fat loss, written to cut through the BS.
It is literally, everything you need to know about fat loss, compiled into one handy resource.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

No one wants to overeat. And certainly no one wants to overeat for years, become overweight, and end up with a high risk of diabetes or heart disease--yet two thirds of Americans do precisely that. Even though we know better, we often eat too much. Why does our behavior betray our own intentions to be lean and healthy? The problem, argues obesity and neuroscience researcher Stephan J. Guyenet, is not necessarily a lack of willpower or an incorrect understanding of what to eat.

Ben Carpenter is the Emily Oster of fitness and weight loss, with more cursing
I love the data support approach that Ben takes in outlining what data has supported weight loss and also when a certain approach doesn’t make a significant difference. There are so many studies that he cites that there isn't a feeling of cherry picking. What I loved the most was that by the end of the book, I didn't feel like I was pushed toward any direction in regards to weight loss, I just felt informed and empowered to make my own decisions.

I was not familiar with this author (many may know of him from social media), however I found his treatment of the subject matter to be pitch perfect. The amount of work that went into this book is quite impressive, while his suggestions are down-to-earth and definitely sound.

Clears the confusion of fat loss!
There are so many aspects to fat loss that are obscured by social media and marketing, this book breaks each issue down in it's own chapter. It frustrates me that it has taken me this long to learn what I should focus on and what is just influencer nonsense or unhealthy behaviour. Honestly, this has helped clarify ALL the things I was unsure about.
I'm already recommending it to people when they tell me they are trying to lose weight...
The author's approach is straightforward, easy to understand and understanding that everyone is different and we can't be grouped by one rigid solution. Because of this book I am now equipped with the knowledge of assessing where I am, what I can improve on and focussing on my reason why I want to do this...

Best health book I have read
Wow where to start? I grew up in the 90s with disordered eating, super thin super models and unrealistic unhealthy weight loss ideas.
I have followed Ben for a while on social media and decided to get his book. Lots of information, science to back it up, and realistic ideas of how to use this knowledges in your everyday life without sacrificing your mental health and happiness for a few pounds.
I found the chapters on alcohol and sugar particularly helpful since there is so much misinformation about these these topics specifically.
No more fear mongering, just great science presented in an easily accessible and at times entertaining manner.
Also, Ben was a great narrator to listen to, highly reccomend. This is the only audio book I have ever taken the time to review but I think more people should have this knowledge.

Say goodbye to the drama of the diet du jour
I loved the in-depth research studies cited throughout the book, and I appreciated the authors intention to provide education so people might make their own best decisions about what to pursue. It’s so easy to get caught up in the latest, and this book does a great job of helping to prevent that. Or cure you of it.

Ben does an excellent job of debunking so many diet myths. He presents the information in an entertaining and easy to understand way. I love that he is not condescending and shows respect for all kinds of real life factors that are barriers to fat loss. I feel confident moving forward and meeting my goals. My anxiety level around dieting has greatly decreased! I’m relieved to have some tools to help me get away from my previous “all or nothing” mindset. Thank you Ben!
