Publisher's summary
A most inconvenient marriage of convenience.
Simon Kingsley is in desperate need of a wife. After years of searching, he finally found love. Unfortunately, she wed another, and now, it is time to settle for someone with whom he can share his life. A friend, a companion, a helpmate. Love is no longer an option for a man whose heart is irrevocably broken.
Mina Ashbrook longs for a loving marriage but accepts that at the age of 30, she is unlikely to find it. Facing a lifetime of being the spinster sister living on her brother’s charity, Mina considers something she never thought she would - a marriage of convenience. She knows Simon is not marrying her for love but hopes it will blossom in his heart if only she can convince him that love comes in many forms.
Will Mina find a way to heal Simon’s heart? Or will the shadows of the past keep them from finding happiness together?
Set in Regency-era England, Flame and Ember is a sweet romance about overcoming the pains of the past and learning to love.

A New Author to LOVE!
I’ve listened to the first two books of the M A Nichols “Regency Love” series and I am very impressed! The author is a great at developing complex and interesting characters in stories that are relatable trials and challenges in their lives. The themes of her books showcase true love and the contrast between what is real and what is deception.
THE NARRATOR IS FANTASTIC!
I have to admit that I often get frustrated with “maidenly” romance (though I prefer my books “clean” over those with erotic sex woven in) — Too often the modest romance books leave the marriage to the end and spend way too much time on courtship without depth in the love that’s developing. It’s as if the best aspects of developing love happen during courtship rather than as part of marriage and intimacy — This clean romance genre all to often misses the point that romantic love and sexual passion are important parts of deepening the bond between two people who have just begun to love, and in an attempt to make the love story modest the stories often lack complexity and don’t capture the depths of married love and sexual passion.
So far, M.A. Nichols has got my attention and her character’s love is not shallow or passionless; yet the emotional and meaningful stories are free of erotic sex scenes. The combination of a good clean romance and an author who understands that courtship isn’t the main event in a love story but rather marriage is where love deepens and transforms life, makes her books a wonderful read!

I loved it!
Flame and Ember is a well written engaging 1800’s romance that will keep you listening chapter after chapter! Absolutely entertaining and filled with the foibles of human nature when it comes to love! Highly recommended!

I loved this book!
it's been a long time since a book has grabbed my attention and this one did just that. if I had one complaint it would be to add a little more passion and romance. but these are very sweet stories.

Outstanding
This was my first book by this author and I thought her writing was beautiful. I confess at one point I didn’t think I would be able to finish the story. My frustration with both Simon and Mina was almost too much. But I stayed with it based on the reviews I had read and they were right: this book is superb! What a well crafted story!!
The narration is amazing as well. Her voice is melodic and the timbre is soothing. Very nicely done!

The Most Deluded “Hero” Ever!
I don’t know when I’ve read or listened to a book where the hero was so oblivious and the heroine was so maligned, criticized, demeaned, overlooked, etc., etc., etc.!!! And although Simon snd Meena get their HEA, it was just so depressing over all for the reader to get there. The narration, while technically excellent and surely portrayed the defeated emotions of the heroine, it just left me basically glad it was over. This feeling was not made any better by s second listen. I’m giving it a 4 for the overall story line but won’t listen to it again.

Oh, Simon!
Another lovely story featuring Mina and Simon, who is basically a clueless blockhead.
Moral of the story, you don't know what you've got til it's gone.
