Uncover the evidence-based science to slowing the effects of aging, from the New York Times bestselling author of the How Not to Die series

When Dr. Michael Greger, founder of NutritionFacts.org, dove into the top peer-reviewed anti-aging medical research, he realized that diet could regulate every one of the most promising strategies for combating the effects of aging. We don’t need Big Pharma to keep us feeling young—we already have the tools. In How Not to Age, the internationally renowned physician and nutritionist breaks down the science of aging and chronic illness and explains how to help avoid the diseases most commonly encountered in our journeys through life.

Physicians have long treated aging as a malady, but getting older does not have to mean getting sicker. There are eleven pathways for aging in our bodies’ cells and we can disrupt each of them. Processes like autophagy, the upcycling of unusable junk, can be boosted with spermidine, a compound found in tempeh, mushrooms, and wheat germ. Senescent “zombie” cells that spew inflammation and are linked to many age-related diseases may be cleared in part with quercetin-rich foods like onions, apples, and kale. And we can combat effects of aging without breaking the bank. Why spend a small fortune on vitamin C and nicotinamide facial serums when you can make your own for up to 2,000 times cheaper?

Inspired by the dietary and lifestyle patterns of centenarians and residents of “blue zone” regions where people live the longest, Dr. Greger presents simple, accessible, and evidence-based methods to preserve the body functions that keep you feeling youthful, both physically and mentally. Brimming with expertise and actionable takeaways, How Not to Age lays out practical strategies for achieving ultimate longevity.

Excellent!

Shortly after starting this audiobook, I realized Dr. Greger is promoting a vegan diet. I rolled my eyes (who wants to give up tacos?!) but kept listening. The book really got me thinking because of all the science backing up his claims and the readily available citations of that science on his website. The more I listened, the more interested--and convinced--I became. I recently watched the documentary Forks Over Knives, which made my jaw drop even further. I started a whole-food, plant-based diet on Jan 1, and started feeling really good within a few days. My attitude toward life, my energy level, and especially the quality of my sleep has changed significantly for the better in the ten days since. I don't want to be preachy, but I'm excited for my loved ones to learn what I've learned, especially my dear brother who suffered a devastating stroke at age 64. At 62, I worry about developing dementia, which my mom, her sister, her mom, and my dad's mom suffered. I take good care of my teeth, exercise, and now, I eat a WFPB diet. I'm hopeful!

Excellent and thorough

I like the science backed data and no BS. Long, but listened at 1.5-1.7 and powered through. Highly recommend. Whole food, plant based eating appears to be the way.

I'm not vegan but I do eat a lot ov vegetables and love the added information.

The PDF did not accompany the book. So I'm going to contact the author to see if there is another way to get it. Audible is not able to do anything about it.

Great book but where is the PDF?

Great info and narration. Missing accompanying PDF is very frustrating. I hope audible helps correct the issue so we can access it soon.

Excellent but lots of rehashed info

Expected a different format that will be more specific on aging. This was more of a rehash of past books with some new chapters but overall a good book
