Irina obsessively takes explicit photographs of the average-looking men she persuades to model for her, scouted from the streets of Newcastle. Placed on sabbatical from her dead-end bar job, she is offered an exhibition at a fashionable London gallery, promising to revive her career in the art world and offering an escape from her rut of drugs, alcohol and extreme cinema. Story
Grieving mother Magos cuts out a piece of her deceased eleven-year-old son Santiago's lung. Acting on fierce maternal instinct and the dubious logic of an old folktale, she nurtures the lung until it gains sentience, growing into the carnivorous little Monstrilio she keeps hidden within the walls of her family's decaying Mexico City estate. Eventually, Monstrilio begins to resemble the Santiago he once was, but his innate impulses—though curbed by his biological and chosen family's communal care—threaten to destroy this fragile second chance at life.

Story
In 1950, a young doctor called Norton Perina signs on with the anthropologist Paul Tallent for an expedition to the remote Micronesian island of Ivu'ivu in search of a rumored lost tribe. They succeed, finding not only that tribe but also a group of forest dwellers they dub "The Dreamers", who turn out to be fantastically long-lived but progressively more senile. Perina suspects the source of their longevity is a hard-to-find turtle; unable to resist the possibility of eternal life, he kills one and smuggles some meat back to the States.

A brilliant book!
This book is unlike anything I have ever read. It is full of mystery and suspence. If you enjoy a story like the Handmaid's Tale you will love this book. The story is very different, but to me it had the same vibe.. I am terrible at explaining what it is about, just listen to it!

no podría dejar de escucharlo, lo terminé en tres días a pesar de que no es mi género favorito. la trama es atrapadora e impredecible. la historia entrañable, cruda pero no cruel.

Unlike any other postapocalyptic book
What a fantastic book! Wonderfully written, and performed. It is not „satisfying” in the sense that it will not give you any definite facts. It will not answer any of your questions. It will leave you wondering. It’s philosophical, disturbing and most likely unlike anything you have read before.

Excruciatingly boring
I can believe this book. Waited till the very end for something to happen, some context, some conclusion. It’s just buzz without any idea behind it.
