KID ELEPHANTS IN SPACE!
Fifth grader Oz Wimbly is an easy target for the bullies of Gifford Elementary, but everything changes when he is drafted into the "Elephant Rebellion."
Oz is whisked off to Fort Loxo—in a galaxy far, far away—where he learns that he is actually an elephant that has been hidden on Earth. And better yet, he can fly!
After surviving ten weeks of boot camp, the many obstacle courses, and the Top Trunk tournament, Oz realizes he and the other recruits of the 11th Battalion are being prepared for battle. Ten of them will be chosen for the most dangerous mission ever attempted by the Rebellion. To retrieve the Firestones. And win back their planet.
And it might all be up to Oz.
With over 50 amazing illustrations, you won't be able to put it down!

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Deep beneath the ocean, there is a shimmering palace. Built of coral walls and windows of clearest amber, it is the kingdom of the merpeople. And one of these mermaids you might know well: she is the youngest, and is gifted with the most beautiful voice. Unhappy with her life as a mermaid, she dreams of living on dry land. One day, on her birthday, she ascends to the surface to find a magnificent three-masted ship drifting in calm waters. There, amongst the passengers, she meets the brown-eyed prince.

Story wonderful, virtual voice a nightmare
Nick Pirog proves that he has always been a marvelous storyteller, character creator and world builder, even in his early days. Cute, funny, mysterious and relatable....think Bad News Bears meets An Officer and a Gentleman in a George Lucas fever dream produced by Disney. It's a wild ride from beginning to end. The fly in the ointment is the virtual voice...it sounds like a first-year theater student's attempt at that phony Oxford English accent, except when she is trying to voice anyone who has an accent other than standard American English. Be it Russian, southeast Asian or American deep south, they all sound exactly alike....an amateur attempt at a Jamaican accent....... Add to that the strange inflections, odd pronunciations, and spelling random words instead of pronouncing them and it becomes nearly unbearable. It speaks highly of the quality of this book that we were willing to stick out the narration...but the book is worth it. Nick, Audible...whomever is in charge, please re-record this with a real voice actor, not AI and please, please, please, don't ever use an AI voice again!

Paramilitary preteens
What if Harry Potter turned into an elephant and played Enders Game like it was Quidditch?
This plot has been around for awhile but Nick Pirog freshens it up. Outright joviality is missing (unlike his previous work) but clever storytelling is abundant. It’s above excellent by YA standards and for anyone who likes this plot line!
The narrator was probably chosen for her good looks, she sounds somewhat like the British woman in my car dashboard but much better. She only stumbles on a few words and exclamations.

Glad I didn’t start with this one
I didn’t realize this was YA when I got it. That should’ve given me a clue what to expect. Pirog is much better than this. But the AI reading has a lot of room to improve.
