Publisher's summary
A Chronicles of Ixia Novel featuring behind-the-scenes notes from the author, exclusive to the audio edition
Choose: a quick death…or slow poison…
Locked deep in the palace dungeon for killing her abuser, Yelena knows she’ll never be free again. The laws in Ixia are strict, and murderers must be executed, no matter the reason. But just as she’s resigned herself to her fate, she’s offered an extraordinary reprieve.
As the food taster, Yelena will eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace—and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia. To make matters worse, the chief of security deliberately feeds her Butterfly’s Dust, and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.
As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters continue to mount. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can’t control. Her life is threatened again, and in order to survive, she must unravel the secrets behind the past she’s been running from.

Humans aren’t alone anymore—in fact, they share a planet with undead and near-dead beings, living in … semi-harmony, depending on who you ask! This is the world of Reboots—where zombies, vampires, and werewolves live side-by-side with humans, taking whatever jobs they can in order to coexist peacefully. So, what better job to give almost-dead or dead beings, than one that consists of no air, cosmic radiation, and a lack of life-sustaining essentials?

Story
You'd think being the princess of all shifters would come with benefits and glamour and freedom—it doesn't. It comes with isolation, constant fear, and a fabric over my head the whole damn time. Nobody will believe me or lift a finger to help me figure out why I'm stuck in this loop, not even my father, the dragon king. If I dare to even mention it to him, I end up with a bloody lip. Yeah, he's a very hard man to talk to. That's why I have no other choice but to switch places with my maid and run away.

I crave adventure and a real man, the kind who sweeps a woman off her feet and steals her breath away. But all I get in grad school is losers who don't even know how to kiss. My friends talk me into a day trip to an Old West ghost town for "fun." It's a truly lame excursion—until I'm catapulted back in time and straight into the arms of Sheriff Nathaniel Fortescue, the hottest British cowboy ever. Kylie Drummond is not like any woman in the Devil's Outlands. She speaks strangely and dresses strangely, but unlike anyone else in this town, she does not fear me. That's her first mistake.

I had red the series a couple of years back and just wanted to listen to it as a background while I am working. BUT I have never enjoyed listening to a book as much as this one. The narrator brought life to this story and added more life to the story I remembered! Loved it!

Why remake something that was great
I can't believe they're replacing Gabra Zackman's narration. This is awful for a number of reasons, one of them being that i had already purchased and owned this series and now that it's being remade if I want to listen to it again I have to buy the new narrated version which is not nearly as good as the first. This is a tacky way to make more money. I genuinely love these books but I don't think I'll ever buy another audible book from this author again if this is going to be done to each of her series. if this is your first time listening to the series and like this genre I believe you'll enjoy it but I can't go from Gabra Zackman's narration to this one and enjoy it the same. I'm so disappointed
