Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Though its alien pilot is dead, the rare extraterrestrial animal inside is not. Fin learns the creature is being smuggled across the galaxy when a pair of interstellar visitors respond to the crash. Noth, humanity's greatest threat, has awoken and he's out for blood. So is Cole and his merry crew of misfits. They have the means to get it, too. Sort of. Their weapon might not be fully functional, but it just needs a power boost. How hard can it be? Pretty freaking hard, as it turns out. Especially when their enemies will do anything to stop them. When someone close to the crew is murdered and Cole is framed for the deed, things only get more complicated. Under the circumstances, that problem should be put on the backburner, but nothing is ever as it seems.

Story
The year is 1989. America has just invaded Noriega's Panama. And Specialist Bennett's platoon of Cav Scouts are in country… with, frankly, not a whole lot to do. Until a freak rainstorm somehow transports the entire platoon—Humvees, weapons, and all—to another world. A world controlled by a wicked Aztec god. The Land of the Black Sun. In a heartbeat, the Scouts find themselves fighting for their lives against savage beasts, witches, zombies, subhuman tribes seeking sacrifices… and even themselves.

Story
Noth, humanity's greatest threat, has awoken and he's out for blood. So is Cole and his merry crew of misfits. They have the means to get it, too. Sort of. Their weapon might not be fully functional, but it just needs a power boost. How hard can it be? Pretty freaking hard, as it turns out. Especially when their enemies will do anything to stop them. When someone close to the crew is murdered and Cole is framed for the deed, things only get more complicated. Under the circumstances, that problem should be put on the backburner, but nothing is ever as it seems.

Fortunately, it's a big universe, and he's got a fast ship and the best pilot in twenty light-years to watch his back. Story
After more than 20 years in special operations, USMC Gunnery Sergeant Wolf Mathison wasn’t looking forward to retirement when—implanted with an experimental artificial intelligence—he deployed on his last mission with a platoon of Marine Raiders being sent to the Jovian moon Europa. The USS Jefferson was destroyed en route, though, and only Mathison and three other marines survived. Trapped in stasis, they were hurled into the outer reaches of the solar system, where they wouldn’t be found for hundreds of years.

Nice start to a new series
Character development was a little vague. Hope the next book will have more depth. The ending left a little to be desired. Should have just said “to be continued “.

Not Bad
First Neill did a great job, with the exception of the pirate voice. Why would space pirates sound like pirates from the 1700's. Overall I like the story, there were some inconsistences, mainly where the characters are making references the editor should have picked up on these.

Absolutely fantastic start of a new series.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. Incredibly well developed characters for a first book. A great story with plenty of action ( and humor😂) The author created an incredibly evil character, and the audiobook voice actor really did an amazing job of bringing him to life! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
