Nel parterre di riferimenti di Alicia un solo nome compare con sospetta parsimonia, ed è quello di suo fratello Bobby, lasciato in coma in Italia dopo un incidente automobilistico, e dato per morto. Di Bobby Alicia non vuole parlare. Ed è proprio in quell'eloquente silenzio che lo psichiatra incunea il suo grimaldello. Perché ora sa che solo di Bobby, solo a Bobby, Alicia vorrebbe parlare. Seduta dopo seduta, il tempo a disposizione si fa sempre piú breve. E nel ticchettio ora sommesso ora impetuoso di quell'orologio che lei sa leggere anche al contrario, Alicia si prepara a dimostrare l'estrema verità che ha appreso su questa esistenza: che «il mondo non ha creato un solo essere vivente che non intenda distruggere».
