Publisher's summary

Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie with a touch of Wodehouse and a dog of distinction.

Who killed Sir Crispin Gibbons? A wedding invitation and news of mischief that could be murder takes Lennox to the Earl of Bloxford's country estate. He, soon, finds himself in a world of purloined artworks, forgeries, and a priceless Bloxford beauty.

But who are the Bloxford beauties? And why are they the focal point around which death swirls?

Lennox must confront life-long friends, unscrupulous artists, and dealers to finally unravel a plot so complex that even his old adversary, Chief Inspector Swift of Scotland Yard, is perplexed.

Wish I could give more than 5 stars!

This series (of only 2 books so far) is among the BEST I’ve heard in many years of listening to Audible books. First, it is a clever and engaging set of characters, good story and mystery, and interesting details of history and place. I have loved finding this—almost like discovering some unpublished Agatha Christie books, or at any rate, really impressive for how well the story flows and keeps me glued. But I must say that an excellent story is made better (if even possible) by one of the best narrators I’ve ever heard in listening to hundreds of books. Sam Dewhurst Philips is hands down one of the best two or three narrators I have listened to. His amazing range of voices (for both men and women’s roles) is incredible. I may listen to this again, just for the pleasure of hearing his narration again! But alas, I went to Audible, to see what else he had read—eager to listen to more, but I can only find this series! Please, Audible. Hire this man to narrate more books. He is the Real Thing. His versatility is amazing, and he reads so well, that I hope to find many more things he has read in the future. And Karen Menuhin, I just love what you are writing. Just such a good book!

Even Better!

This story was so good and I laughed out loud. I forgot to mention when I reviewed the first book that the descriptions of rooms and landscape were so clear that I could almost see it and smell it. Again I love the humor. Can't wait for the next one. Please hurry.

Wonderful story and narration..

Another good murder mystery with a very strange ending about the killer. I do like Lennox, our hero. And I like the inspector Swift too, even though he’s a little curmudgeony. And I thought Lennox was going to get the girl, but it was Swift. And there was 1 accidental death and 3 murders you’ll have to figure out, who, how and why.

Anyway, this one was every-bit as good as the first one.

No romance and no swearing.

As to the narration: Sam Dewhurst-Phillips is simply marvelous again.

satisfying cozy murder mystery

Cozy if murder actually can be
Well-mannered without pretense
If these are your cup of tea, I have no doubt you will enjoy this book and series.
Dewhurst-Phillips shines in handling the narration. He brings the story to life with accent and intonation; with differentiation in characters and emotions.

Perfect Pandemic Panacea!

This delightful British cozy was full of arch humor and colorful characters. The narrator was phenomenal. I immediately went to see what other books he has narrated, and was disappointed to see that he has only done this series. His performance of multiple voices was full of character, sympathy, and humor. As the publisher's blurb indicates, this murder mystery series is a cross between Agatha Christie and PG Wodehouse, with some Jerome K Jerome thrown in. A fully entertaining escape!
