Many years ago, Sir Aelfric and his nine companions saved the world, seizing the Dark Lord's cursed weapons, along with his dread city of Necrad. That was the easy part. Now, when Aelfric—keeper of the cursed sword Spellbreaker—learns of a new and terrifying threat, he seeks the nine heroes once again. But they are wandering adventurers no longer. Yesterday's eager heroes are today's weary leaders—and some have turned to the darkness, becoming monsters themselves. If there's one thing Aelfric knows, it's slaying monsters. The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. From idyllic small towns to claustrophobic urban landscapes, Mallory Viridian is constantly embroiled in murder cases that only she has the insight to solve. But outside of a classic mystery novel, being surrounded by death doesn’t make you a charming amateur detective, it makes you a suspect and a social pariah. So when Mallory gets the opportunity to take refuge on a sentient space station, she thinks she has the solution. Surely the murders will stop if her only company is alien beings. At first her new existence is peacefully quiet…and markedly devoid of homicide.

When level-headed Francie arrives in Roswell, New Mexico, for her college roommate’s UFO-themed wedding—complete with a true-believer bridegroom—she can’t help but roll her eyes at all the wide-eyed talk of aliens, which obviously don’t exist. Imagine her surprise, then, when she is abducted by one. Odder still, her abductor is far from what the popular media have led her to expect, with a body like a tumbleweed and a mass of lightning-fast tentacles. Nor is Francie the only victim of the alien’s abduction spree.

Holy Hell. Action pact storyline.
The second in the series did not disappoint but jeez so many emotions. I am in awe of the author for creating this series. So many storylines going on and amazing characters. The dynamics of Tarquin and Sharp makes me root for them over and over. Two different worlds but drawn by love. Sharp, strong and vulnerable and Tarquin, shy and vulnerable. They really are so alike. I love their romance and hope it goes strong into book three. I loved Kav and Kuma being brought in and the relationship of the three and then how they all accepted the Mercada. I absolutely despised Fletcher and hated his obsession with Sharp and his jealousy of Tarquin. I am sure my blood pressure was high when he was in the picture.
I am so happy that I listened to this book because it was so complex and I think it was easier for me to obtain what was going on than if I was to read it.
What will the future hold for Sharp and Tarquin on the 7th Cradle? Happiness, hopefully, and their home.

Great continuation of the story, narrator continues to crush
First of all, I have to call out the narrator. He has to be one of the best I’ve ever heard. For a book with such a large cast of characters, the performance literally helped me keep track of who was who.
O’Keefe’s prose continues to be lovely, descriptive, and easy to follow. The plot doesn’t slow.
I didn’t love this as much as I loved The Blighted Stars, but this still is one of my top books I’ve read.

What a story, amazing
This is one of the best sequels I’ve had the pleasure to read. The story grips you from beginning to end, and I’m honestly a little sad that it’s over. I’m looking forward to the next book!

Exciting conclusion to the series!
Exciting conclusion to the series. I feel like I got to know the characters better in this second book. The pronoun usage is progressive and the science fiction tech applications are interesting. 😀

more romance, no new sf ideas
Every science fiction aspect of this story was introduced in the first installment. From that point it becomes a story about oft-separated lovers. I have had this in my library for a month now and have not yet finished it. I can't stand listening to it for more than a half hour or so at a time. I should just mark it DNF and give up.

it's ok!!
First the narration: Narration is great. Well read, and enjoyable to listen to
Second the story: Story is good, but long winded. Some scenes are dragged on and on and get boring. I found myself fast forwarding through some parts. The villain is also way over the top, and keeps coming back, repeating the same villainies over and over again...gets boring real fast...
so, will I listen to the third book? yes
Do I recommend this one? Ehh!

Not stoked on the grammar
I'll start out by saying the story line is darn good. What I'm having trouble with is the fact that the writer insists on calling a singular person they/them/their. I was truly confused at first but after all the pronouns and the fact that half of the characters are gay it dawned on me. I was raised to respect people's beliefs and the life they choose to live so I will but it doesn't mean I have to purchase anymore books.
