  • [Pod Drop] Extreme Cruelty - The Case of Rhonda Pattelena - York, Maine
    May 27 2024
We’re taking this week off in honor of Memorial Day but wanted to make sure you still had an incredible podcast to listen to. Here’s an episode of a podcast we adore and a host we adore even more: Least of These. An upcoming marriage, a trip to the beach, and Ostrich. On March 26th, 2021, 35-year-old Rhonda Pattelena and her 33-year-old boyfriend, Jeffrey Buchanan took a walk along Short Sands Beach in York, Maine. Short Sands was Rhonda’s favorite place on earth. At 3:54 pm, 911 calls began to pour into the York Police Department. Callers reported that they witnessed someone being assaulted. By the time police arrived, the 33-year-old mother of three was deceased. What happened…and why? How it should be.

Heather, new listener here. I adore your podcast. Finally someone who really looks at the facts. You tell it like it is and I need that. As a mother of three now incredible grown children, I hear your love and struggles; it brings back memories. My dearest and longest friend is also a Heather. You are my new best friend. I need your vents at the end. No one in my irl world here gets why I, as an abuse victim, love listening to true crime, but also want to vent. Finally someone who's beautiful inside and out, that gets me. Thank you.

I'm only giving 5 stars...

I am only giving 5 stars because I can't give more. This podcast is my favorite of many for several reasons. Heather tells the story with background and compassion for the victim in a straightforward and logical way. There's no silly chitchat that takes away from the gravity of the story or the respect for the victim with an appropriate level of snark and distain for those who commit the crimes. The timeline is told in chronological order without jumping back and forth, everything is well researched and she doesn't hesitate to give credit to her sources. She is the kind of podcaster I would love to be if I had the time and tenacity to dedicate to a creation such as this and sounds like the kind of friend you would want to have watch your 6 if you needed it. Definitely worth the subscription to Patreon for the extra episode each month. Heather, I would give you a thousand stars if I could but all I can give is 5.

Bias reporting

I used to enjoy listening to this podcast. However, lately, the reporting has been very biased, and my opinion. it gets harder and harder to listen to her.

I wish we could be big mad without being profane.

clearly talented and well educated folks putting this podcast together. these are stories that need to be told. I just regret that our society has become so coarse as to seem to require language that I would prefer not have become so common.
