Publisher's summary

A masterpiece of suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child

Four people in a car, hoping to make Chicago by morning. One man driving, eyes on the road. Another man next to him, telling stories that don’t add up. A woman in the back, silent and worried. And next to her, a huge man with a broken nose, hitching a ride east to Virginia.

An hour behind them, a man lies stabbed to death in an old pumping station. He was seen going in with two others, but he never came out. He has been executed, the knife work professional, the killers vanished. Within minutes, the police are notified. Within hours, the FBI descends, laying claim to the victim without ever saying who he was or why he was there.

All Reacher wanted was a ride to Virginia. All he did was stick out his thumb. But he soon discovers he has hitched more than a ride. He has tied himself to a massive conspiracy that makes him a threat—to both sides at once.

In Lee Child’s white-hot thriller, nothing is what it seems, and nobody is telling the truth. As the tension rises, the twists come fast and furious, keeping readers guessing and gasping until the explosive finale.

Larger than Life, Reacher Comes Through Again!

Your mother told you not to hitchhike and she was correct. But then YOU are not Jack Reacher the 6’ 5”, 250 lb ex-military cop. This book is classic Reacher. For the Reacher fans, you have probably already downloaded Book 17. If you are new to the series, it would be best to click on “View Series” and start at the beginning although that is not at all necessary to get the full enjoyment of “Wanted Man”. Dick Hill does his usual outstanding job as reader. So unpack your toothbrush and settle in to another Lee Child masterpiece. If this review was helpful, please let me know.

Another winner from Child & Hill

If you're already a fan of the Jack Reacher series, a lot of the same elements are here-- a stranger wandering along the road comes into a nefarious situation that he works with a colleague (usually a female), to try and find out who's behind the situation. This one uses the formula well, and Mr. Hill does another great job as narrator of the series. He's one of my favorites. I recommend whole heartedly!

Entertaining

A typical Lee Child book. It was worth the read! This is the first Reacher book I have read that commented on current politics.

A Comic moment was the Highlight

Other reviews have said most of what needs to be said. For those who are long term Reacher fans who have also read Harlan Coban's Reacher- wannabe novel, Lee Child includes one very minor character who will make you laugh out loud. Sadly that was the highlight of this Reacher novel for me.

Must have had to meet a publishing deadline...

Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Dick Hill?

Yes, I will certainly try another book by Lee Child. I would rather not listen to Dick Hill again. I was very disappointed in this book and the narrator. I thought the story was far too slow and at times appeared to be (no pun intended) "reaching" to move the story along. Mr. Childs seemed to be using all kinds of numbers (i.e.- statistics, measurements, etc.) to fill in the narrative. It got distracting after a while. The ending was a little too far fetched for me, as well. Overall, this was a big disappointment and I had to force myself to hang in there and finish it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I did not care for it, myself. It was too far fetched for my taste.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Dick Hill?

No.

Don't bother

Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Dick Hill?

Maybve

Would you ever listen to anything by Lee Child again?

Maybe

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great character development

Did A Wanted Man inspire you to do anything?

Quit listening as words were just added to make the book of greater length. Was he getting paid by the the word? Loved the character - hated the boring repeating of known facts. I have read MANY other Reacher books but I wish I had not bought this book.

Best Reacher book in quite a few!

I found the last few books somewhat disappointing, They were adequate but I believe if you were not a fan of the series there would have been little reason to recommend them. This book could stand on it's own except for Reacher's obsession with reaching Virginia. It was a fast paced story that I did not want to stop listening to. I was late to work a few mornings as I needed to finish a chapter in the car before going in to work. I truly enjoyed this one and I hope the character makes it to Virginia someday........

A new side of Reacher

Would you listen to A Wanted Man again? Why?

The reviewer that panned this book couldn't appreciate Reacher's sleuthing skills which were revealed in this volume. There were also many funny lines delivered by Reacher. So he didn't break a lot of bodies. So what. There is more to Reacher than being a brute. How many people know as many area codes and population figures as he.does?

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dick Hill makes Reacher come alive.
