Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

No earwax here!
Let's embark on a captivating journey through the realms of speculative fiction with "Dead People on Facebook: An Anthology of Speculative Fiction," the third installment in Roger Ley's Chronoscape Collection. Narrated with finesse by Craig Bowles, this audiobook is a treasure trove of diverse narratives that will leave listeners spellbound. Ley's anthology is a masterclass in storytelling, weaving together a rich tapestry of genres and themes that defy categorization. From the mind-bending world of "Chronoscape" to the whimsical realms of fantasy and the chilling depths of horror, each story offers a unique glimpse into the boundless imagination of its author.
At the heart of the collection lies "The Martin and Estella Stories," a captivating exploration of alternate realities and the human condition. Through the eyes of its titular characters, readers are transported across dimensions, encountering love, loss, and everything in between. Ley's deft hand at characterization brings these worlds to life, imbuing each narrative with depth and emotional resonance. Immerse yourself in the pulsating heart of "The Martin and Estella Stories," a spellbinding odyssey through alternate realities and diverse genres. Here, within the pages of Roger Ley's anthology, characters embark on a tumultuous journey through worlds teeming with intrigue, betrayal, and the timeless quest for self-discovery.
In Ley's deft hands, themes of identity, love, and family transcend mere storytelling, weaving a tapestry of emotions that resonate with every turn of the page. From the depths of despair to the heights of euphoria, readers are drawn into a whirlwind of human experience, where laughter and tears intertwine in a symphony of raw authenticity.
But the adventure doesn't end there. Prepare to be captivated by the eclectic tales within "Other Flash Fiction Stories," where whimsy dances with darkness in a mesmerizing display of literary prowess. In "Horseman," Ley masterfully crafts a labyrinthine riddle that challenges the mind and stirs the soul, while "A Fly on the Wall" offers a tantalizing glimpse into the enigmatic world of "Chronoscape," where shadows lurk in every corner and reality itself is called into question.
For those with a penchant for adventure, "Steampunk Confederation" beckons with its siren song of intrigue and excitement. Set against a backdrop of steam-powered wonders and clockwork marvels, Ley's serial novella whisks readers away on a breathtaking journey through a world where anything is possible. From daring escapades to heart-stopping showdowns, every moment is infused with a sense of wonder and possibility, leaving readers breathless with anticipation.
And let us not forget the nostalgic charm of Ley's autobiographical tales, which transport readers back to the bygone eras of the 1970s and 1980s. With wit and warmth, Ley invites us to join him on a journey down memory lane, where childhood dreams and adolescent adventures collide in a riotous celebration of life's rich tapestry.
In "The Martin and Estella Stories," Ley invites readers to explore the boundless depths of imagination and the infinite possibilities of the human spirit. With each tale, he reminds us that the greatest adventures are not found in distant galaxies or mythical realms, but in the quiet moments of introspection and self-discovery that define our shared humanity. So, grab your copy, buckle up, and prepare for the ride of a lifetime. The adventure awaits.
But "Dead People on Facebook" is more than just a collection of fantastical tales; it's a reflection of the human experience in all its complexity. From the poignant to the absurd, Ley's stories offer a mirror to our own lives, inviting us to ponder the mysteries of existence and the choices that shape our destinies.
One of the anthology's standout features is its seamless integration of different genres and storytelling techniques. From the haunting beauty of "Steampunk Confederation" to the dark humor of "Other Flash Fiction Stories," Ley demonstrates a remarkable versatility as a writer, effortlessly shifting between tones and styles with ease.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the expert narration of Craig Bowles, whose skillful delivery brings each story to life in vivid detail. Whether he's channeling the existential dread of "A Fly on the Wall" or the swashbuckling adventure of "Steampunk Confederation," Bowles captures the essence of Ley's prose with precision and flair.
But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of "Dead People on Facebook" is its ability to defy expectations. Just when you think you have the anthology figured out, Ley throws a curveball, subverting tropes and conventions with gleeful abandon. It's this unpredictability that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what lies around the next corner.
And then there's the enigmatic editor who likened Ley's stories to jellybeans – you never quite know what you're going to get, but you can't help but crave just one more. It's a fitting analogy for an anthology that delights in keeping its audience guessing, tantalizing them with the promise of new and unexpected flavors with each turn of the page.
The author informed me that editors that published some of these stories said, 'These stories are like Harry Potter every flavor jellybeans: you're never sure what flavor you're going to get, and it might be earwax, but you can't help yourself from having just one more.’ No earwax was found, but there were some Ambrosia-flavored tales.
"Dead People on Facebook" is a testament to the power of storytelling to transport us to worlds beyond our wildest imaginings. Ley's prose is a feast for the mind, offering a banquet of delights for readers hungry for adventure, mystery, and a healthy dose of the unexpected. So, if you're ready to embark on a journey through the realms of speculative fiction unlike any other, look no further than this remarkable audiobook. With Ley as your guide and Bowles as your narrator, the possibilities are endless.
