Resumen del Editor

What is meditation? Why practice it? Which techniques are best? How do I do it? The answers to these often-asked questions are contained in this down-to-earth book, making it of enormous value for anyone who wishes to begin and maintain a meditation practice. Written by a Western Buddhist nun with solid experience in both the practice and teaching of meditation, How to Meditate contains a wealth of practical advice on a variety of authentic techniques, from what to do with our minds to how to sit to visualizations and other traditional practices. Best of all, McDonald's approach is warm and encouraging. The next best thing to personal instruction!

Good content Strange Narrator

I really tried to listen to this book but the narrator did me in as so distracting. The content was good but probably best to purchase the paper book and read it that way. I am returning this one.

Very good, just not what I expected

It was very detailed and very complete. However, I thought it would be less about Buddha and more about how to do it... Learn it step by step.

Content is excellent, recording is flawed.

I’m trying to stick with the audio book. I read the book 18 years ago and wanted to reread/listen to it. It’s an excellent introduction to mediation.

The recording—ooftah, it’s awful. It sounds like computer created speech. The editing is awkward, volume is inconsistent, consonants get cut off, skips like like a record! The reader mispronounces common words and essential terms.

Ex: Tibetan is pronounced robotically “tie-bet-on” with each syllable pronounced with equal emphasis, it sounds like she’s saying Tie bet on.

The flow is disrupted because of all of these shortcomings.

Excellent Resource for Learning Meditation!

This is the best resource I've found in over 20 years for learning meditation. The content is easy to follow and understand. The practices are powerful, fundamental, and explained in a way even children can understand. This book will introduce Buddhist topics to the novice and help them create a solid daily practice. It will also provide deeper insight to the skilled meditator and allow them to expand their training. For the long-term, yet sporadic meditator, this book provides an excellent refresher and will allow you to get your practice back on track. The teachings are affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), which itself is a part of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. This is the same tradition His Holiness the Dalai Lama belongs to. You will gain a lot by reading this and putting its meditations into practice. I know I have!

Highly recommended introduction to meditation

I bought a paperback edition 20 years which I’ve referred to many times over the years. It was originally recommended to me in Transitions bookstore in Chicago by a Buddhist staff member and has helped me gain a greater understanding of anxiety, anger , emptiness and many other topics. Very, helpful and practical.

The FORM of meditation only

This book is all about the form of meditation and very little about the practice with substance and meditation. If you want to learn how to meditate try something else. If you want to learn the form of meditation this is the book for you.
