Resumen del Editor

In Saving Capitalism, Robert Reich reveals the entrenched cycles of power and influence that have damaged American capitalism, perpetuating a new oligarchy in which the 1 percent get ever richer and the rest - middle and working class alike - lose ever more economic agency, making for the greatest income inequality and wealth disparity since World War II. In brilliantly provocative detail, he shows how our misguided veneration of the "free market" has led us here and offers an empowering call to civic action as well as specific ideas for reform. A former White House advisor, talk show fixture, lecturer, and essayist and the star of last year's acclaimed documentary Inequality for All, Robert Reich is a beloved ambassador of progressive economics and a voice of reason in a media climate of fear mongering and finger pointing.

What's wrong with the Right?

How average middle class Americans on the Republican Right don't see how they work against themselves is beyond me.

Even Hillary supporters because she's really no different. There is not one politician with the exception of Bernie Sanders who'd I'd return to office. Elizabeth Warren I would; but I won't be able to vote for her.

Excellent point Robert Reich. I've lived this working for several major defense companies; thru the 70,'s to today.... And lived every downsizing trick in the book; all while getting laid off three times, and the CEOS laugh all the way to the bank.

worth the time

an easy listen and helps put into words all things that "feel" wrong about the current system. doesn't push blame onto any one particular party or reason which I felt validated the author intentions.

Revealing and Enlightening

I knew the deck was stacked against the 99% but not to the degree Mr Reich reveals. Depressing from a David vs Goliath perspective before knowing what David accomplished.

Thorough arguments and references, clear ideas

This is an excellent book for those who want a much more concrete history of how our laws and market rules changed to create the economic imbalance we see today. Robert Reich's arguments are incredibly thorough, and while the book may seem repetitive at times, it is for the better as it looks at the same argument idea from various angles, creating a full logical proof of each problem's existence and backing for his ideas to correct that problem. Reich does a great job reading the book, with the only minor flaw being that all his quoted voices sound like a bad interpretation of a civil war Era general speaking :-)

An outstanding social justice book for our time

Dr Reich did a wonderful job presenting a case for social justice vis-a-vis the abuse of capitalism in our American society today. And, he presents some great ideas about what we can do about it in the last several chapters. I highly recommend his book. I've been writing about the problem of Profit At Any Price for years. Ever wonder why the cards seem stacked against you

The core theme of this book can be summarized in the following quote.

“The idea of a “free market” separate and distinct from government has functioned as a useful cover for those who do not want the market mechanism fully exposed. They have had the most influence over it and would rather keep it that way. The mythology is useful precisely because it hides their power.”

Reich eloquently and completely exposes the wealthy and elites' ability to undermine the true concept of a free market. Using the government to limit competition, price control, and workers' ability to organize are all things that the wealthiest Americans have done in the past 100 years in order to centralize as much of the wealth as possible at the top.

The book goes further to move away from just a social issue and highlights while how this shorter term viewpoint has led large corporations to chase short-term stock returns over long-term profits for the organization.

Our current economic model is unsustainable and as many people as possible need to educate themselves into how capitalism has been twisted against the average American.
