Love long books especially ones written by this author. He has this ability to make you believe every word with great interest because he writes with humor, passion, pain, and hope. I wish he had dozens of books available.

Amazing read!

I loved these books. An amazing story through and through. I just wish he would have elaborated more on Peter’s journey home from India. Other than that a fantastic listen!

Magnificent book

This is a wonderful treatise on family through the lenses of spirituality, war, and of course baseball. It is perhaps the most real love story I have ever read. The book is nothing short of magnificent.

a book about family that doesn't shy away from the hard not so lovely portions

David james Duncan is a literary giant now and this book was second only to his magnum opus Sun house. a fantastic story about a dysfunctional family and thier many ups and downs that feel familiar and interesting to the reader. I highly recommend all of his books

Just couldn't go on

This book was recommended to me many times. The reviews are great, too. I should have listened to my first instincts when in the opening chapter the author goes on and on describing his dad's ashtray & cigarette smoke...I kept hoping for a story but about 3 hours I just had to give up. Alas the prospect of another 20 hours of the same was just too much.
