Publisher's summary

Now an original series starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out. The Shadow is rising to cover humankind.

In Tar Valon, Min sees portents of hideous doom. Will the White Tower itself be broken?

In the Two Rivers, the Whitecloaks ride in pursuit of a man with golden eyes, and in pursuit of the Dragon Reborn.

In Cantorin, among the Sea Folk, High Lady Suroth plans the return of the Seanchan armies to the mainland.

In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve.

Against the Shadow rising stands the Dragon Reborn...

Critic reviews

"Amid all the Sturm und Drang...is a finely tuned comic strain that both leavens the story and adds to its development. This latest installment of a major fantasy epic definitely will not disappoint its fans." (Booklist)

I guess this is the end...

I have really enjoyed books 1-7 of this series. Yes, they are long, and in the case of this one, seem to end so abruptly, I'm left checking to see if somehow I missed a section... I love the characters, the world, the dialog, the narrators...and would recommend these books to everyone who likes good fantasy.

The world Jordan has created for this series is very complex. I really like the concepts of the wheel, the pattern, etc., and how the events could be taking place at any time - past or future - and how the age of legends may have even been recognizable to someone from present day earth. I also like how it makes me think about what could have come before us on this planet, and how maybe we've just "forgotten" about the "legends" of our creator and dark one...

It is very frustrating that Audible does not have book 8...but from what I understand, maybe enrolling in a 12 step program now is the right thing to do. I did go back and get New Spring - which is surprisingly entertaining so far, but I think after that I'll just be done with this series...

Great story and book but...

It's great but there are little repeats every chapter. It skips back like 2 sentences once per chapter. Not a huge deal but it's a little irritating. Still 5 stars!

Better than some in the series

In book 7 we get to experience the aftermath of Dumais Wells and the attempted kidnapping of Rand Al Thor. The rebel Ai Sedais are building towards some spectacular action on the white tower and all the pieces are seemingly being put in place for a big push forward in the story. Other than the main plot not moving as far forward as I would have hoped, the ending is the only let down, with the death of a main character coming with practically a flick of a wrist. This is disappointing after the confrontation build up over the last 3-4 books to have such an important fight occur in 10 min or less.

dragging

not a whole lot happened in book seven other than inter-drama between the female characters. I felt like this book was 30 hours of space filler.

Ever watch an anime?

Because this book is where the "fillers" start coming in. The story progresses, just slower. If you've made it this far, you'll still enjoy it.

Great story, editing failed.

This was a great addition to this series and as usual Kate and Michael do a fantastic job reading it. The editor failed in splicing it together. The editor failed in splicing it together. Each time a segment comes to the end and goes on to the next one, the previous sentence is repeated. Didn’t realize that I had to be reminded of what I had just heard.
