Publisher's summary

Amber Marie Sterlington, the rage of the season in Regency-era London, has her pick of men, and she knows what she wants most in a husband: a title and a fortune. Why would she ever marry for something as fickle as love? And why would she ever look twice at Thomas Richards, a third son of a country lord?

But when Amber's social standing is threatened, the character of her future husband becomes far more important than his position. After a public humiliation, she find herself exiled to Yorkshire - alone except for her maid, Amber, and faced with a future she never expected in a circumstance far below what she has known all her life. Humbled and lonely, Amber begins to wonder if isolation is for the best. Who could ever love her now?

Life without beauty

This was an interesting book with a lot of caricature development. Can you find happiness without the "normal" beauty the world expects you to have? Sometimes the hardest things we go through in life; the things that feel like they will break you in a way that you will never be whole again, are the things that help us to become stronger, wiser, and kinder then we ever dreamed posable. This was an inspiring book.

Wonderful! Wonderful!

I loved this very unusual & unique book. It was quite a different story line, one which I wasn’t expecting at all. It was truly a beautiful and heart warming story. One of my very favorites- I felt like I was reading one of the classics. Narration was excellent also.

Sweet story

I really enjoyed this story. I love sweet romantic stories that I can listen too without blushing. This fit the bill besides dealing with a sensitive issue for the heroine that was interesting to see how it worked out. I really enjoyed watching the heroine grow in good chsracter, although I feel the author could have had a bit more fun/interesting things happen as she learned how to take care of herself, but the sweetness of the ending makes up for it!

How frail our securities are

The parents were heartless and insecure abandoning their daughter for nothing she had control over.

Another hit!

I have listened to many historical romances and most have trouble holding my attention but this author has a way of weaving a story that is truly engaging. In the process of the story I also learn about the rules and expectations of society in the 1800's at a pace that holds my interest as I wonder what will happen next.

My Impressions

I enjoyed the messages of this novel. A person’s character and inner worth far outweighs his/her’s social status. Also the ability that anyone can change for the better. And last, our weaknesses, or defects do not define us. Again it is our inner worth that counts and makes us the person we are.
