Publisher's summary

Baking. It can get a guy killed.

When a retired detective superintendent chooses to take a culinary tour of the British Isles, he hopes to find tasty treats and delicious bakes.…

…What he finds is murder, mayhem, and mystery everywhere he goes.

His dog, Rex Harrison, a former police dog fired for having a bad attitude, does his best to steer the humans in the right direction, but he cannot understand why they don’t just use their noses–the answers are right there if they would just employ their strongest sense!

However, solving a few mysteries won’t get them out of trouble, for there is a master criminal behind many of the crimes they encounter, and they’ve just caught his attention.

Their adventure is getting deadlier with every destination, but these two sleuths are not going to be put off. With Rex’s keen sense of smell and Albert’s decades of experience as a detective, this pair are on the trail.

Or are they being lured into a trap?

One thing is for certain, they had better figure it out soon or they might be the next victims.

Outstanding

I expected that I would not make it through this set of 10 books. Usually, the books all start sounding the same after the first three or four. NOT SO with this set. Each is very different and I enthusiastically listened through all 63 hours. The narrator was also excellent. I'm actually going to check out anything else this author has written.

Great Man & Dog Relationship!

What a great series! I loved the interplay between Rex and Albert. They truly love each other and would give their lives if necessary. The wit of the writer was exceptional, and the overall stories were delightful mysteries. I will look for the follow on series to purchase, and would highly recommend this series. They are clean and will put a smile on your face!

Good story, good plot, good character development, almost good technology usage.

I liked the character development and interaction. However a device that records with NO electronics. that is real science fiction.

A dog named Rex Harrison - need I say more about

I totally enjoyed these 10 installments of the series. My first time reading Steve Higgs and I can say it won’t be my last. I loved the complexity of the mysteries- the speed with which Albert connected the dots and of course - Rex - long suffering Rex being the superior detective but having to rely on his human for some support! Higgs developed Rex’s character with just the right about of wit balanced by lovable dog!

Chase and bite

I loved the growing relationship between Albert and his former police dog, Rex. Rex loves to play chase and bite with the bad guys. Their adventures were intriguing, smart, humorous, and exciting.

A charmingly funny and captivating mystery!

I listen to audio books for years and when my husband watches his bang bang shoot-em-up shows, I just put on a book and my ear buds. This week he was questioning my sanity as I cracked up listening. I haven't enjoyed anything as much in years. I've laughed out loud and cheered exuberantly as these unlikely heroes saved the day again and again.

Interaction between dog and man

Like humor dog comments about human limitations while also being loyal to “his human”. Also, enjoying reading about old man seeking adventure and personal growth even as his children both loved him and feared for his safety.
