Publisher's summary

Matt Pinfield is the ultimate music fan. He's the guy who knows every song, artist, and musical riff ever recorded, down to the most obscure band's B-side single on its vinyl-only EP import. As a child, music helped Pinfield make sense of the world. Later he would approach his music idols after concerts and explain why he loved their music. As an adult, rock music inspired his career, fueled relationships, and, at times, became a life raft.

In this expansive memoir, Pinfield traces his lifelong music obsession - from the heavy metal that infused his teenage years to his first encounters with legends like Lou Reed and The Ramones and how, through his post-MTV years, he played a major role in bringing '90s alt rock mainstream. Over his long career, Pinfield has interviewed everyone from Paul McCartney to Nirvana to Jay-Z, earning the trust and admiration of artists and fans alike. Now, for the first time, he shares his five decades of stories from the front lines of rock and roll, exploring how, with nothing more than passion and moxie, he became a sought-after reporter, an unlikely celebrity, and the last word in popular music.

Music Memories of the Radio DJ of my Youth

This was a stroll down memory lane. Matt was the best at turning me on to alternative rock during my young adult life. I was lucky enough to be living in NJ and to hear his unique voice on the radio. I connected to the music the same way Matt did. The book was great but only wish Matt read his own work.

Couldn't stop listening

I couldn't stop listening, after the early life stuff. That's always the low point of any bio.

What a life

Matt has led a crazy awesome life and totally worth listening to but it’s strange he didn’t read it himself

Reliving the 90's

Watching Matt on television in my 20s made me want to buy this book and I forgotten how great the 90s were with music.

Matt starts with 60's and and the book with 2016. Very quick listen and you will enjoy it

Interesting read

Matt lived an exciting life and has great commentary on music. If you love MTV, alternative and rock music and can sit and talk to someone about albums and music for hours, this is the book for you.

Brag Brag Brag

So, Pinfield was the person who broke Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Oasis, The Bends album AND Duncan Shiek? Oh, got it. He spends most of the book talking about breaking all the major alternative bands while getting high and taking a lot of drugs. Tiresome and uninteresting.
