Publisher's summary

Rupert Carsington, fourth son of the Earl of Hargate, is his aristocratic family's favorite disaster. He's irresistibly handsome and unapologetically irresponsible, & trouble follows wherever he goes. Still, Rupert somehow manages to escape entanglement - emotional or other - with maddening grace! But now he's a prisoner in Cairo's most infamous jail and his only chance out is accepting a beautiful widow's dangerous proposal.

Scholar Daphne Pembroke wants him to rescue her brother, kidnapped by a rival seeking a legendary treasure. The partnership will be strictly business: she'll be the brains; he, the brawn. Simple enough in theory. Their journey takes them into danger and adventure. The most disciplined of women and the most reckless of men are about to clash in the most passionately impossible way.

One of my favorites

This one is on my favorites shelf so when it was offered in a two for one I picked up the audio. I love Rupert and Daphne Pembroke is so much his opposite. Rupert cannot stand to be bored and it turns out Daphne succeeds in keeping him engaged for the entire book. The performance was very well done. I was not that fond of Rupert voice but other than that a really good performance of a very fun book.

An adventure awaits

I love a juicy historical novel and Loretta Chase does not disappoint! Enough hotness to be juicy but with an amazing amount of interesting detail about Egyption history and tge unraveling of the mystery to keep me riveted. Id love to get my hands on more books like this!

Love Kate Reading

Would you consider the audio edition of Mr. Impossible to be better than the print version?

I have read the print version of this book. but the wonderful Kate Reading makes the story new again. One of my favorite audible book narrators.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mr. Impossible?

The scene in the prison when the heroine barters for the release of the hero.

Unique!

I found the story interesting. I have rarely read anything about the host country in the book and found the historical and cultural references unique.

Funny, Sexy, Exciting, and Historically Accurate

I love this story more each time I listen to it. There's a lot of physical comedy, as well as witty repartee. This story is a wild adventure as well as a romantic comedy, also deeper than many.

Roslyn Landor does a wonderful job. I love that she uses a specific voice for Rupert. Many narrators have one leading man voice, but Roslyn has several.

Originally I was reluctant to get this book. I prefer my historical romances to be in Britain, or at least Europe. In my experience exotic settings tend to be artificial. Also I like pre-Victorian England.

However this book overcame all my prejudices. The English characters acted like English people. The setting was exotic to the characters but much more false to me (Egypt after the Napolianic wars but before Britain took over.

The story was marvelous, something that could only occur at that place and that time. It is similar to an Indiana Jones adventure, with an exciting couple leading the adventure.

Delightful zany adventure story

What made the experience of listening to Mr. Impossible the most enjoyable?

It moved along at a fast clip - I could hardly believe it when I realized I was nearly to the end, without being bored even once.

What did you like best about this story?

It hit all the tropes of an adventure story - fighting, treasure, madmen, romance, exotic locations- without getting heavy handed about it - plenty of humor along the way.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

I think I'd have to vote for Rupert, the male lead, but all the supporting cast had their moments, it was really an ensemble cast, which is part of the charm of the whole book - I thought so when I read it in print as well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rupert tore Daphne's dead husband's character to shreds, I think. The drama with the pyramid viper was pretty good, but it wasn't *moving*, per se, just dashed exciting.

Any additional comments?

I like everything Loretta Chase has written, so I am hardly unbiased, but when performed by Kate Reading, this little gem sparkled enticingly. I forsee more than one relisten - I highly recommend it for cheering up when you doubt the goodness of the world, and want to be encouraged.

OK Summer book

Narrator was good, story Meh.. it was ok could be better. I wasn't super enthralled to the point that I could really get into the characters not sure how to explain it. Its definitely romance lite, I was hoping for a better story line someone mentioned it was like the Mummy. It was in the sense of the place of the story. Give it a try you may like it?

Original setting for a Regency

This romance stands out because of its setting in Egypt, which gives the characters a chance for adventure and danger. The relationship is a classic bad boy meets straight-laced girl. Although she is also a brilliant scholar and of course, not as reserved as she seems. This series has a lot of humor, which I appreciate.
