Publisher's summary

Saddled with a job she hates and a detestable boss she likes even less, Adeline Reynolds could use a break. It doesn't look like she'll get one today. Her service dog, Coco, is alerting her she's about to have an epileptic seizure - and her frustrated blind date has left her to deal on her own. Enter firefighter Dean Christopherson, who escorts her to the nearby fire station, where she can suffer through her ordeal safe from injury and prying eyes.

Dean - known as "Crash" to his friends - didn't expect to find The One in a diner during his lunch break, but he's blindsided by the beautiful, brave Adeline. She brings out his every protective instinct - along with the carnal ones. As they get to know each other, Dean's feelings for Adeline grow fast, as does his irritation with her boss, whose behavior is suspicious at best.

As much as he wants to protect Adeline from the world, Crash has to tread carefully. His overprotectiveness could push her away...and leave her vulnerable to a man whose obsession has reached the boiling point.

Lovely

A romantic/sensitive alpha with a wicked sense of humor and a lover of dogs (a woman’s dream), throw in a crazy creepy bad guy and you have one suspenseful tale. A gentle & touching ending.

Good story

This audiobook was about a young woman who has epilepsy that's so severe she has a service dog to alert her when she's going to have a seizure. One evening when she is on a first date with a guy, the dog alerts her and she asks her date to help her get to somewhere safe before the seizure starts. Instead of helping he dumps her and leaves. A firefighter who is at a table in the restaurant sees this and comes over to check on her, then ends up taking care of her during the seizure. They quickly start dating and it's pretty much insta-love. Unfortunately, she has a wacko boss who delusionally thinks she's his.

Seriously???

Seriously, what is it with the women in these stories. Always biting their lip. In every story they bite the lip. 😕

A favorite series

Susan Stoker is one of my favorite authors and while I previously enjoyed reading this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it again. This time in audio. I recommend all books by this author as her style of writing keeps the reader/listener intrigued as the story unfolds.

Five stars are not enough

Every time I read or listen to a Susan Stoker story, my wallet weeps. Well. How can I not get a hold of her books, both in e-book format and audio?

This one, the story of Crash and Adeline, was another home-run for me, making me fall in love with another of her Alpha men and their women. Especially knowing that as usual, Susan Stoker brings another topic and center, and that is epilepsy.

Every time this author shines a light on a particular subject, she makes it easier for us, her readers, to appreciate and understand life's little quirks and nuances. This time, she teaches us how we can help when we see someone having epileptic seizures, and what we can do to help them be as comfortable as they can during the event.

She also tells us to respect service or guide dogs. Yes, they may be cute as heck, but they are there for a purpose, and that is to save their human's life. If we see someone with a service dog, let them be. Or, if we see someone distracting a service dog--let us do our part in educating them of the folly of doing so.

Erin Mallon did a great job narrating Shelter for Adeline, and am eager to start her next narration of Sophie's story.

LOVED

Wow! Such a great story about real people with real challenges. I love that Adeline wasn't the typical body and job. I love the Dean wasn't the answer to all of her challenges but her partner and support. Such a great story that made me tear up a bit too. And of course, Coco was the best!

favorite so far

Loved this story and the characters! It definitely took awhile before figuring out where big suspense was going to come from in this book in the series however that made it all the more appealing. I also loved how the main female lead has a disability similar to myself therefore making the book that much better. Loved how much characters rally for each other. Dislike that dog couldn't be more hero in big climax scene.

loved it

I really enjoyed that the audio the story taught me a lot about epilepsy that I didn't know and about service dogs as well as being a touching story and other characters from previous books. I recommend it. I went on to get the next book in the series. (a character who was very important in this book/audio even though it is standalone.
