Publisher's summary

Worried for his sanity after poor in-game choices, Grant Legate’s sister, Liz, blocks access to Continue Online. With no way around the restriction, he ventures into a new world—a VRMMO game based in space—called Advance Online. There he must help his companion AI, Hal Pal, overcome an identity crisis, race to the center of the universe to bring back his true love, and figure out where he stands on the scariest implication of all; AIs are bringing the dead to life.

annoying

half the novel is the main character complaining and it's so annoying every other thing is him complaining and saying things like if only I had my old skills pops up so much it makes my blood boil and him looking back second guessing himself and pretty much ignoring the character build up of the first two novels if I wasn't so invested because of the first two novels I would have returned this book.tbis the first and only bad review I've goven here

Definitely a detour but still good

This series exists in the LitRPG genre but pushes the cliches out of the way to show a deeply thoughtful story. Be warned. The online world of continue is replaced in this book with Advance Online. It is a Sci-fi game set in space.

I just didn't like it.

I loved the first two books in the series but this book goes off the rails. There are much better space exploration/fight books and there are way better litRPG books. Give this one a skip. It felt like a punishment to get finish. I just didn't care about the new game and the family drama
felt forced and irrational. Check out Dakota Krout if you're looking for your next litRPG adventure.

The change of pace was unexpected but good

I wanted more Morogul's Gift and Echo but laser and spaceship battles was interesting as well.

The pull of this series is the main character's relationship with the voices of continue online, Hal pal consortium, his twin sister, nephew, his ailment and his deceased wife. The rest is topping and serves as background to the story. Can't wait for the next installment.

Great world building.. Story is too long

I really want to love this series! The world is awesome.. The protagonist is just too wordy for me tho (or not wordy enough, depending on how you look at it). The story is one line of dialog followed by 30 lines of introspection about that one line of dialog... No exaggeration. The shortest sequences are stretched out to an extra 10-20 minutes because of this. I found myself constantly rolling my eyes as the main character went off into yet another diatribe rehashing everything that's happened up to this point. It's like the author doesn't trust us to follow the story on our own.. If we're on book 3, we probably get it by now!

Anyway.. Narration is superb and worldbuilding is great so I split the difference and gave it three stars

Do some people dream of electric sheep as well?

What did you love best about Continue Online Part Three: Realities?

The main character. These books really dig deep into important questions: what is real; what does it mean to be alive? What is most important to a man? We get to ride along with Grant Legate while he struggles with these.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mother. I was glad to finally hear a bit about what she was about.

What does Pavi Proczko bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice acting is excellent and he really makes the characters come alive. I thought there was something with his cadence that made it easier to imagine the place settings in the virtual world.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to. I had to do it in two as its a bit long for one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I've read the entire series. The audiobook for book 3 really added to the experience.

New universe, same limited storyline

Unlike other reviewers, I enjoyed the new game setting in space. It was introduced well and I found it more interesting than the medieval game world of books 1-2. It was interesting finding out more about all the key players backgrounds, including the Hal Pals and mother AI. The main character really pulls out of his previous depression in a believable and relatable way.

My previous thoughts on this series still remain. The story is very narrowly focused and fails to touch on SO many interesting concepts surrounding a world with sentient AI. This leaves a lot of interesting storyline on the table and made for a much less interesting book. I again found myself increasing the playback speed just to get through and don’t think I’ll be returning the series for books 4-5 anytime soon.

Confusing Plots

To many Plots within Plots for one book the author should have narrowed his focus. Because we were flipping between realities, it got confusing and hard to follow, losing cohesiveness of a fine novel. Though still I recommend this book, it is with regret because this audio book could have been a lot better if the Author could control his focus. The Plots cause confusion and can be hard to follow, they are to numerous and lose the reader to easily.

Main character is depressing, incomplete, and irritating

I forced myself to go threw this book. The world is good but the main character is mind numbing. You have been warned!
