Story
Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. Mary assumed duties as the island’s district nurse.

Osbourne would remain there for the next nine years. Journal of a Trapper is his remarkable account as he developed into an experienced trapper and a seasoned mountain man of the Rockies.

A Treasure Trove of Information!
This delightful travelogue begins with a brief history of how Amsterdam started out as a modest fishing village and grew into a global cultural icon. It contains a lot of good information on how to travel smart and offers humorous yet wise suggestions such as, “Dutch weather has a sense of humor. You should too” and “Even the windmills take the time to spin. You should take some time to slow down too,” and my favorite, “Pickpockets think it’s their civic duty to keep you on your toes.” I also like the admonition to not “miss the chance to turn your day upside down at the Upside-Down Museum.” That is definitely one place I want to visit!
Beyond Tulips in Amsterdam starts high with the museums of Anne Frank and Vincent Van Gogh and ends low with the Red-Light District and coffee houses that have nothing to do with coffee. This informative travel book has something for everybody!

Amazing guide for the Netherlands!
This Amsterdam travel guide is truly immersive and informative—it even includes a handy PDF with pictures! Covering everything from landmarks to hidden gems, it's been invaluable in planning our family trip. While the narrator could be improved, it doesn't detract too much from the overall experience. With this guide in hand, my family and I feel much more prepared and excited for our upcoming adventure. Highly recommended!

Very pleasant and detailed
This is a great overview of Amsterdam; what's there, places to visit and experiences to have. The narration is pleasant but a touch robotic I would say. However, it's still done really well and there is certainly plenty of detail and advice about what to see and the choices you have, the currency and way to purchase things, museums, restaurants and cafes and of course the famous things like the Cannabis use and red light district. A good balanced auto book.
