Publisher's summary

Erik and his family are Norse who live on the island of Orkneyjar. Their world is thrown upside down when the King of Norway colludes with their jarl to take over their home. They flee to the land north of Mercia.

Hoping for a life free from the tyranny of a King, they have to fight Danes and Saxons.

When King Harald of Norway sends ships to destroy them, the Clan of the Fox is forced to flee to the newly discovered land of ice and fire. They travel beyond sight of land into an uncharted ocean to face a future which is uncertain. Their only certainty lies with their navigator, Erik. He is their only chance to find a new home.

Leaves you wanting more

This is an excellent start of a series and I'm really anticipating the next book... and the next.
Narration is absolutely spot on and the old Norse terms (name of the months to name an example) are delivered to an Icelander's satisfaction.

Anyone that loves a good alternate history should not let this go by. We're not at the point of divergence yet, but there's a promise of a big one hidden within.

I love this writer and narrator

Griff Hosker has done it again. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to start the next. Love his use of cleverness, cunning and strategy with his main characters instead of sheer strength and brutality.

The Early Days of the Navigator

Like all of the stories written by this author I was completely engaged. An insight into the story of the legendary navigator who fled his homeland to find the island of fire and ice. The early life of this famous explorer explains the character of this historical figure that enabled him to travel the oceans to find new worlds. I thought the narrator's performance was excellent. This is the first in the series and I plan to follow the story to its end.

top notch historical fiction

I can't believe I'm saying this but I love this series as much as anything I've listened to from Simon Scarrow and Bernard Cornwell with the exception of Sergeant Sharpe series from Cornwell and Eagles of the Empire from Scarrow

EPIC!

Enthralling! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and the narration is excellent. I just completed the sequel, and I won't wait for the 3rd to be released in audible format. It should arrive tomorrow. I will actually have to read. Cheers Mr Hosker!

Continual entertainment

I thought the author kept good momentum throughout the book. It was interesting, but it wasn’t overly detailed. Just write for entertainment.

Blood on the Blade

I loved this Griff Hosker story, Marston York brings this story to life with his wonderful narration. His voice is perfect for the viking stories of Griff Hosker, the gravitas of his voice brings each character to vivid life, and gives each chapter bright graphic pictures which enhances the story and brings it to life.

Poorly researched

Author doesn't seem to have a very deep understanding of the times or culture of the Viking Age and it's evident to anyone who has immersed themselves in this period for some time. If you're going to write a historical fiction novel there should be some level of research behind it, this reads like fantasy inspired by reading an article about vikings...sorry to say it but it's true

Ok tale but the depth was just at the surface

The storyline is great but I didn’t like the details and the character development seemed really quickly developed I could almost go further with the series thinking that the author develop more of the story but it’s not worth it. Also everything was perfect in this world for these characters there is no issues that after a few chapters I knew that everything would work out always.
